The blast is blamed on gas, with limited communication due to isolation of the camp. All workers belong to the United Mine Workers of America.
Joseph, Michigan February 21 The Pere Marquette steamer No 4 remains trapped in a vast field of ice ten miles off Pentwater harbor after a 60 hour siege. The trapped Manistique lies four miles north with coal supply, while a relief car ferry southeast of No 4 remains frozen as Washington reports a U S supreme court ruling on Vanderbilt inheritance tax. A Cleveland bribery allegation and a murder in Connellsville are also noted.
Mount Vernon Ohio February 20 Robert C Lingafelter of Newark was found guilty by a jury of forgery linked to the Homestead Building and Savings Co. of Newark. His father James F Lingafelter, secretary of the company, faces trial on a similar charge. The case moved from Newark on change of venue.
Last night Grays Armory opened for the Cleveland Automobile club third annual exhibition. The committee outdid previous shows with greater splendor and significance, presenting a display far beyond past predecessors.
The U S Supreme Court affirmed taxation of bonds deposited with the state by foreign insurance companies doing business in Ohio in the Scottish Union Insurance Co vs Franklin County Youngstown banker Henry Tod, a prominent local financier, dies at 66. Tod was son of Civil War governor David Tod.
