Dalton students shine with superior ratings at county music festival

About 1000 Dalton students attended Wayne County's annual music festival where ratings were assigned for performances. Louise Speck and Tom Smith earned superior plus and superior respectively, among many others listed for superior ratings as judges noted strong ensemble and individual performances.

Five Girl Scouts Earn Curved Bar Award in 554 Troop Ceremony

Troop No. 554 held a Court of Awards in the scout room with mothers as guests. Special guests included Mrs. Sterling McFarren and former leaders Mrs. Elmer Haney and Mrs. Earl Coolman. Five members received Curved Bar Awards. about 40 badges were awarded.

Blue and Gold Banquet By Cub Scouts at Methodist Church

The Cub Scouts Blue and Gold banquet is scheduled for Saturday February 23 at 6 30 at the Methodist Church basement. Bring a filled basket and own table service. Rolls butter cake and beverages will be furnished. All Cub Scouts and parents are urged to attend.

Three VFW Bowling Teams Enter Sixth District Tourney

Three bowling teams composed of VFW members entered the Sixth District Bowling Tourney at Holiday Lanes Canton last Saturday evening. Team captains were Don Maurer Bob Sword and Carl Wilson with listed teammates. Several wives joined as cheering section. results of standings not announced.

World Day of Prayer observed in Dalton area

The 77th World Day of Prayer will be held Friday March 1 with local women joining a global network. Dalton Methodist Church hosts at 10:00 a.m. under United Church Women guidance the service themed More Than Conquerors. The MYF group plans a bake sale March 2 at Edgerton Drugs starting 10:00 a.m. and calls for paper drive preparation.

Booster Club Meeting Set for Monday at High School

The booster club votes for next year's officers at 8 p m Monday February 25 at the high school. Plans for the April 6 Sports Banquet will be finalized with nominees named for vice president directors secretary treasurer and president Veryl Bach leads the slate.

Dalton Bulldogs Open Tournament Race Tuesday Night

The Dalton Bulldogs host Lake in the second game at 8 30 Tuesday February 26 in the tournament. Lake sits near Hartville with a 10-7 record and tall first string players. Dalton is in the lower bracket with Mapleton East Canton Jeromesville and Lake. If Dalton wins Tuesday they face Jeromesville on Saturday March 2 at 8 30 and then the Mapleton East Canton winner on March 9 to reach the District. Doors open at 6 00 p m admission is 1.00. student tickets bought at school are 0 50 and none at the gate.

Free dinner for two contest at Dalton Gazette ads

The Dalton Gazette and Book Restaurant and The Towne House run a weekly giveaway of eight free meals. Winners must be Dalton shoppers who subscribe to the Gazette at least two weeks and claim within one week by presenting a certificate or the newspaper clipping with ID.

Rotary hears all about the tire business

A Firestone Rubber Co representative spoke at the Rotary meeting on Monday about tire sales and price competition with Goodyear. He said automakers dictate tread and softness for new cars, with factory processes guided by manufacturer demands. Three Massillon visitors attended the session. Marion Tschantz led the program in place of Richard Moser.

Reserve plates now for existing license numbers

Residents may reserve their current plates starting today at the Dalton Gazette office. Hours are 9 to 5 during March, six days a week. Bring proof of ownership and ten dollars plus 35 cents before March 1.

On February 21 a homemaker club meets at the Methodist Church and a Science Fair is hosted by the Dalton PTA. February 22 features Dalton vs Northwestern at Northwestern. February 25 the Rotary Club and Auxiliary to DVFD are on the agenda. February 26 Methodist Circle meetings and a VFW gathering at the Post home precede the basketball tournament opening against Lake. A Chamber of Commerce dinner is also listed.
