The P T A convenes at D H S auditorium on Thursday evening February 21 for its annual fellowship dinner. Parents are asked to bring table service and baskets with food while coffee and cake are provided.
Mr and Mrs Vernon Woods hosted a pleasant birthday gathering last week with services from the Stoners led by Charles Stoner who recalled Marietta Steiner Woods. The group enjoyed a large birthday cake, a fine dinner, and many gifts and anniversary cards sent by friends including Mr and Mrs Roy Rudy.
High three games leader Eldon Nussbaum with one win. High single game by Eldon Nussbaum at 221. Martin Consington posted a top single game score.

A daughter weighing nine pounds was born Friday morning February 15 at 6 15 in Massillon City Hospital to Mr and Mrs Alvin Buchwalter of Dalton with maternal grandparents Mrs Theron Swinehart of Apple Creek and Mr and Mrs Harry Buchwalter of Dalton. Earlier, on Sunday February 10, Mr and Mrs Raymond Burger of Dalton welcomed a son named Daniel Raymond at Mercy Hospital Canton.
Lloyd Lehman of Orrville has been appointed agent of the Railway Express Co at East Palestine. Lehman has served 27 years as relief agent for the Cleveland Northeastern division in Orrville and will be replaced by Dan Bateman of RD 1 Dalton.

Rev James B Moore spoke on Abraham Lincoln at the February Dalton Community Club meeting in the Presbyterian dining hall. Victor Gerber led songs and Rev M Marker offered a blessing. Merle Douglas presided as plans for the athletic banquet on March 14 in the high school auditorium were discussed. Club committees for the year were announced including program membership recreation flower and banquet duties with listed members.
The Friendly Neighbors Homemakers' Club will meet with Mrs Mandane Rudy on Thursday February 21 at noon. Members Marie Clark Jane McFarren and Hazel Rudy assist. Roll call asks for a homemade Valentine for exchange Mae Davis to lead devotions. A covered dish dinner and recipe exchange follow with optional needlework.
Earl Hazel, 14, of Clyde Hazels, is in Dunlap Orrville hospital after an appendectomy. The WSC S of the Methodist plans a bake sale Saturday February 23 at Culligan's Main St starting at noon. J L Rudy sold land east of Dalton to H Davidson of New Philadelphia and bought the Addison Lehman place on East Main St. Dalton friends were visited by Mrs A P Williams Mary Wertz and others from Alder Mont and Akron. Lincoln Day banquet attendees included V Amstutz and the Buchwalters. Maxwell Gardner and wife visited Louisville Kentucky with Mr and Mrs Leonard Stephens. Mrs Stephens is from Canton.
Wayne County banks disclose total resources of 54.298 million from year end statements. Deposits total 50.585 million with 19.3 million loaned to business and individuals, reflecting active lending to support local commerce and home purchases. Bank stockholders hold 4.345 million in capital and surplus, with 30.982 million in cash and government bonds for depositor protection. Federal Deposit Insurance covers up to 10,000 per account, 30,000 for a couple splitting insured sums.
Circle No 3 of the Presbyterian Church met February 12 with hostess Mrs F O Marty and aide Mrs Walter Ott. Eighteen members attended as Mrs Elmer Haney led devotions on God's Form of Speech. Mrs Tracy Douglas reviewed part of We Americans North and South.Mrs Wm Cook and Mrs Ray Camp sang a duet. Leader Mrs Lee Douglas conducted the business meeting. Refreshments were served by the hostesses.

In memory of our beloved wife and mother Laura Hare who died six years ago on February 24 1946. Gone to the light that shines fair she rests those hands that did their best. Dear mother, forever in our memory. The family keeps her cheery smile and kindly ways alive in our thoughts. She was loved by all who knew her and is sadly missed.
Dick Smith a 6 ft. center from D H S graduate plays for Western Kentucky College basketball of Bowling Green Kentucky. The Hilltoppers travel to Bowling Green Ohio for a March 3 game. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Dewey Smith of this place.
Mrs Don Moser and Freda McConahay of Burbank Ohio spend a three week vacation in Hawaii traveling from San Francisco by steamer and returning by plane. She met Ken Leisey at Waikiki Beach.
The February meeting of the W S C S of the Methodist church convened at Mrs. Carroll Scott’s home. Mrs. Howard Boals led devotions on I will give my best, with hymns, business led by Vice President Kile Lintern, and program assisted by Emily Slusser, Donna Bates, and Mary Lou Moore.
Funeral services were held Sunday in Flushing for Robert E Van Fossen 79 retired rail roader who died Thursday February 14 at his residence on the county line road RD 2 Dalton. Surviving are his widow Lida L two sons J B of California and Charles E at home a daughter of Sarasota Florida and three grandchildren.
