Community Club Names Committees

The Dalton Community Club met Thursday in the Methgust church dining rooms with 22 members present. Rev. L. E. Flauhaus led thanks and the W.S.C.S. served dinner. Committees to serve the year include Flower Welker Mu man and Rev. E. W. Spence. Membership Rev. L. E. Flauhaus George Eastman C. R. Goudy. Finance Carroll Scott Lee Douglas Harold Davis. Public Affairs Paul Schultz Charles Buchwalter Ellis Springer Ed Gonter. Recreation Elmer Vandersall Paul Badertscher Dave McCullough. A banquet for football and basketball teams was arranged by Elmer Vandersall Paul Badertscher Robert Slusser and David McCullough. Deputy Sheriff Martin Tyrrell spoke on law enforcement.

Bank Closed Monday For Washington Birthday Holiday

The First National Bank will be closed Monday due to the Washington birthday legal holiday. Cashier C. E. Buchwalter notes the bank's observance. Also reported: editor spotted the first robin at home on Tuesday. A near capacity gathering at Smithville Inn celebrated the Dalton VFW Post 5534 second anniversary with a friendly program. Highlights included a piano rendition of America, a blessing by Comrade Carl Wilson, introductions of officers and wives, a mahogany plaque presentation, a post history talk, and a humorous finale by Jerry T. Rickets as Dr. Weatherspoon.

McKinley High Speech Tournament Competes in Declamations

Attendees at the McKinley High School Speech Tournament in Canton on Saturday included Donna McGovern Jo Ann Groff and Donna Gerber in dramatic declamation. Humorous declamations featured Marlene McKee June Ressler Hazeljean Springer Jean nette Stein and Tom McFarren. Susie Smucker presented an original oration while extempore speakers were Richard Coffman and Richard Rosenberger. Dalton judges were Miss Vivian Douglas Mrs Paul Stockham and Mrs William Blethyn.

Dalton Wins to Reach Second in Wayne County Class B

Dalton High School's basketball team earned second place in the Wayne County Class B League by defeating Doylestown 52 to 47. In the tournament draw Chester drew Apple Creek and Dalton faced Sterling, with Mt. Eaton Doylestown and Fredericksburg receiving byes. The county tournament opens Wednesday at Wooster High School Gym with Shreve versus Congress, Creston-Burbank, Dalton versus Sterling, and Chester versus Apple Creek scheduled.

Three Injured In Wreck Near Wooster

Clay Dean Jennings of east of Dalton received minor cuts and bruises when his westbound car skidded on an icy Rt. 30, spun into a eastbound car driven by Lynn Lewis of New Era Michigan. Lewis suffered a broken nose and facial lacerations. his wife had scalp and facial lacerations. Both were taken to Beeson hospital. traffic was halted about an hour.

Obituary Milton Chapman Dies at 74 in Dalton Massillon Sanitarium

Milton Chapman 74 of Dalton died early Saturday morning February 14 after a lingering illness at Mary Day sanitarium Massillon. Survived by widow Lydia A son George of Dalton brother Clyde Los Angeles ten grandchildren two great grandchildren. Funeral Monday at 2 pm in Methodist church conducted by Rev L E Flauhaus with burial in Dalton cemetery. Stockham Funeral home handled arrangements.

Death of Albert Farver Near Smithville

Albert Farver 75 retired farmer died at home last Thursday from a heart attack. Survived by daughter Iva Farver, sons Roy and Paul Farver, half sister Mrs. CF Gretac of Akron, and four grandchildren. Funeral at Oak Grove Mennonite Church near Smithville officiated by Rev. Virgil M. Gerig and Rev. J. S. Gerig. Burial in church cemetery. Mr and Mrs Amos Tschantz attended.
