The 11th Regiment Band’s Friday performance drew strong attendance despite severe weather. Prof. Puegner delivered a captivating solo with an encore, while Mersis Kurzen and Feasel impressed with a clarinet and cornet duet. Proceeds totaled $32.15.
Professor O. Lockhart of Ohio State University comments on the new federal income tax. He says it shifts some cost of government to the wealthy and could relieve poorer classes from heavier customs and internal revenue duties. He warns of self assessment inviting fraud and urges a more moderate, source-based levy once administration is perfected.
About 30 Canton Sark Telephone Company operators quit Saturday morning joining the newly formed union. They demand higher pay and more convenient hours, and insist on reinstatement of Mrs. W. P. Jacobs, former assistant chief operator discharged for joining the union.
A. 8. Tuttle visits Creston. Miss Emma DuComb of Minerva visits Mrs. Rob't Reed on North Mill Street. R. C. Buchwalter near town attends Mt Union College for three months. Street widening on Wes Goudy’s sidewalk to ease traffic. Ernest, editor’s son, injures two fingers while operating a Liberty jobber. no bones broken.
The grand jury met last week and examined 39 witnesses across 19 cases. Seventeen true bills were returned against eight individuals with two cases ignored. Indicted are Antonio Kursonal and Henry Colombo with five indictments each for burglary and larceny, Clement Mast for larceny and abandonment of legitimate children. three others named later.
Miserable feeler hearsay becomes a health pitch for Electric Bitters. The ad claims Robert Madsen from Iowa recovered from eight months of virulent liver trouble after four doctors gave up. It promises similar results for liver and kidney complaints and offers bottles at 50 cents and one dollar from A. J. White and H. E. Bucklen & Co. in Philadelphia or St. Louis.
A rifle shooting event is planned in Dalton on Monday February 23 1914 starting at 10 am. Prizes include turkeys geese and chickens. The notice extends a cordial invitation to all shooters to attend and participate.
Harriet I. Hits of Orrville sues H. W. Coyer in Wayne County common pleas court seeking 15000 damages for alleged slander. The suit outlines claims of reputational harm from statements attributed to the defendant.

Governor Cox sent a special message to the Assembly seeking legislation to move the listing date for personal property and the Budget Commission meeting. Etling of Wayne introduced a bill to shift the listing date from the first Monday in February to the first Monday in April, aiming to allow real and personal property records to be prepared for tax in the same year.
County Auditor Charles Fabr states warrants for Blind Relief under the old law will be issued at quarter end for the preceding three months. Payments in arrears for Oct Dec 1913 may be claimed by call or letter. Relief for Jan Mar 1914 will be paid April 1, 1914.
A New Year shoot at the local gun club offered chickens turkeys and geese as prizes. An missing chicken prize was later found in the club house six weeks after the event still tagged No 19, with the building containing only straw packing and no clear explanation for the bird's confinement.

Angeline Erwin born June 2 1636 near Enat Greenville died February 14 1914 age 78 6 12 years. She lived in Crawford County grew up near Dalton joined Presbyterian church taught Sabbath school and served the Woman's Missionary Society. She married David Morrow October 6 1861 leaving two daughters two grandsons and siblings. Funeral held at Dalton Presbyterian Church February 18 conducted by Rev J W Findy with many out of town mourners attending.

Sugar Grove school No 1 pupils will offer an entertainment on Saturday evening February 21. Admission is ten cents.

A likely final communion service under Pastor Rev W H Hubbell will be held at the U P church on Sabbath morning. Special preparatory services are planned for Friday evening and Saturday afternoon making the event of broad interest to the congregation.

No. 2 reports a social gathering at the Keifers last Thursday February 12 with Mrs. John Woods Mrs. Anna Shamro Mrs. Leonard Geis Mrs. A L Shanklin Mrs. W A Bolam Mrs. Nettie Shanklin and daughter Mera in attendance. All report a good time. A L Oberlin visited his brother at Mansfield over Sunday.
