Dalton and Sugar Creek township oversubscribed the Fourth War Loan by 1 000 dollars, with total subscriptions reaching 159 939.75 on a quota of 158 985.00. The E bond quota was exceeded by 2 021.00, and Leitner Electrics topped 82 E bonds via payroll deduction.
Youth group invites Hi School and Post Hi members to a Washington's Birthday Leap Year party on February 23 in the church basement on Web Street. Girls may bring a “fella” and boys may show off to the girls. Includes fun fellowship and food.
Dorothy Scott daughter of Mr and Mrs Carroll E Scott will play Fluffy Adams in Junior Miss to be produced February 25 by Masquers at Capital University Columbus Ohio She is a member of Kappa Sigma Theta and active in the debate team and Masquers majors in Speech and is also noted for radio serial work through See Seana al act.
The Office of Price Administration denies reports that only one more ration shoe stamp will be valid this year and says no major changes are planned. The current pace of stamps about every six months is expected to continue, with non rationed shoes available and extra rations obtainable from local boards if need is shown. Also noted are local items: eighth grade beats North Lawrence 65 to 19, Mrs Dale Steiner and infant Helen Louise return home, F F A boys host Home Ec girls, and a science prize feature may be explored in a future magazine promotion.
John J Kisner 2 of R D 1 Navarre formerly of Canton died Sunday at the home of his daughter Mrs Grover Shanklin. He is survived by two sons Emerson Massillon and Oakley North Canton a brother Frank and William and a sister Miss Nettie Eisner all of Canton 13 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren The funeral was held Wednesday at the Lower church near Marshallville Surian churchcomstery.
Merlin Berg of the fighting Ohio Division arrived Monday on the way to Alabama for reassignment after service in the Pacific. He wears insignia showing pre Pearl Harbor enlistment three years active duty and a star for major engagement during the rapidemic on New Georgia. Berg recalls golf with Rev. Mark Brown Chaplain and Chaplain Uphoff before hospital stays on the West Coast Missouri Fort Benjamin Harrison. He hopes for a long delayed furlough after arriving back in the States and recovery in Indiana.
Service members from Fort Jackson Buffalo Pecos and Fort Sam Houston are listed with home visits promotions and wings. Cpl Wilbur Wertz Howard Kraus Seaman Earl Johnson Roger Sauter Pvt Raymond Price and Pfc Carl Saurer are noted with postings promotions and Good Conduct Ribbon. Local residents E E Smedley and Mrs Lloyd Poorman seek yarn donations for Red Cross projects. Lt Ray Holcomb and family joined weekend guests at Amos Tschantz residence.
Mr and Mrs Charles Arnold thank friends for kind remembrance during the stay at Mercy hospital.
Mt Eaton residents organize a fire department under Chief C. C. Rudy after a joint village council and Paint township trustees meeting to secure a fire protection contract. A community canvass will raise funds to equip the new department.
The Women s Missionary Society of the Presbyterian church will hold an all day meeting at the church on Thursday Feb 17 A covered dish dinner will be served at noon An afternoon program led by Mrs Sam Martin and Mrs Ira Wertz will be presented and officers for the coming year will be elected Mrs Stockham presiding.

Simon Gaddis and Audrey Ruth Simon unite in marriage on February 9 1944 at Navarre St Pauls Church with Rev Wilmer Grunwald officiating. After a reception the couple will reside in Richmond Va where Gaddis is stationed. The bride is a Dalton High graduate and the groom a Navarre High graduate. Blue Star Service Club meets next Monday. Miss Gloria Bach joins WAVES heading to Hunter College New York. Visitors and trips noted for Spence household and relatives.
Weather shows seven inches of snow with zero and below winds. Visitation by Rev C C Kulp from Michigan. church events include a shower for a new baby and a wedding to Loyal Kratzer on March 1. Births, furlough visits, a homecoming dinner, and a death of Katherine Hofstetter noted along with local obituaries and church services.
Snow finally caught up with us ending the winter breuth. Beginning last Friday with five inches, more fell Saturday and then three inches Monday. North and south roads drifted badly in spots as crews kept shovels and plows busy.
Ruth Leisy expresses gratitude to friends and neighbors for cards letters and meals during illness and says the kindness will be remembered.
Ira F. Adams buys the E. C. Gonter property on Garfield street opposite the planing mill. A correction notes the Fet ter farm purchaser was misreported last week. John Ramer, son in law of Roy Horst, was the actual purchaser.
