The Dalton Board of Education met Monday night and accepted resignations, swore in Miles Tschantz to fill the unexpired term of Geiser, and named committees with chairs. A bus purchase plan and a Kent State survey were discussed, along with a drape contract and cafeteria inspection. Bills totaled 7664.27 with funds balances listed. The next meeting is March 13.

Mary Hofstetter Kirkowsky 86 died February 8 at Twin Maples Nursing Home Massillon born August 10 1874 Sonnenberg near Dalton daughter of David and Catherine Hofstetter she married Henry Kirkowsky 1913 in Canton lived in Canton Massillon Kidron later. Survived by three brothers and one sister funeral held Desvoignes Funeral Home with Salem Church cemetery interment.

Prize winning Scout window display marked Scout Week

Dalton hosts county music festival draws 800 pupils
Dalton schools hosted a Wayne County music festival with more than 800 pupils. About 1,500 attendees including parents and teachers filled the school, while staff, custodians, and cafeteria workers supported the event. Judges treated performances as self improvement rather than competition, with numerous students earning I or II ratings in solos and vocal ensembles.

Firemen vote to resume daily noon siren blast
Sixteen members attend the regular Firemen meeting on Tuesday February 7. Three new members, R. R. Weisgarber, M. R. Santmyer, and D. Massie, were voted in. Five calls were received in January, including three house fires one burn and one explosion. As of Monday February 13 the siren will be blown daily at 12 noon.
