Dalton student named 1968 Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow

Candice Beals of Dalton High School earned first in a written knowledge and attitude exam for senior girls securing the 1968 Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow award. She qualifies for state and national scholarships and receives a General Mills silver charm.

Razing of Dalton landmark to clear post office site

The old Central Hotel in Dalton, once a bustling stop for traveling salesmen and visitors, is being razed to make room for a new post office. The Gardner family ran the hotel from the early 1880s until deaths in 1921 and 1932, with notable guest receptions including Congressman William McKinley. After changing hands, the building housed diverse businesses and apartments before its sale to Donal and Mrs Dearolf for the post office project.

Mike Thomas Earns Freshman Honors at Ohio State

Mike Thomas son of Mrs Margaret Thomas and the late Henry Thomas has been chosen for the Freshman Honors college at Ohio State. He carries a 4.0 high school average and is active in the National Honor Society music FTA and the scholarship team. Bulldogs defeat Smithville to seize third in WCL race

The Bulldogs beat Smithville 83 to 70 on their floor to move into undisputed third in the WCL. Thomas led with 26 points, Hobart added 25, and Smithville committed 17 turnovers as Dalton’s press disrupted the guests throughout the game. The win followed by a 57-48 reserves victory, ahead of a rematch with Mapleton on Feb. 23 and a path toward Canton in the tournament.

Dalton Fire Department Receives City Pay Rise

Dalton council approved a 200 rise for the Dalton Volunteer Fire Department during a 2 hour 10 minute meeting. A new contract for 2200 was recommended, replacing the past 2000 annual amount. The group discussed main street mercury vapor lights, planned further meetings, and police cruiser and sewer/street topics.

Smoke test to locate sewer water intrusion starts soon

Verle Garder is a patient at Wooster Community Hospital with the flu and will be dismissed in coming weeks, delaying knee surgery until recovery.
