The House pressed the Hepburn railroad rate bill with a late roll call as 346 members voted for it and seven Republicans opposed. The Senate spent most of its time on the urgent deficiency appropriation, while Patterson’s caucus resolution drew fresh attention only briefly.

London February 13 The steam trawler Veronica owned by Stavanger Norway has been lost off Lossie mouth Scotland with a crew of ten aboard.
Charles C. Delgen, accused of murdering R. K. Lewis at West Farmington, tells Prosecuting Attorney Wilkins that he killed Lewis in a quarrel over a failed business deal. He says Lewis advanced with a stick, prompting Delgen to strike.
State Examiner McKenzie reports Wellsville’s waterworks faced factional strife after trustees refused to turn over department books to the new service-board. He found $17,000 credited to water users fraudulently, with no city receipt, but could not identify who falsified records or who benefited due to missing records.
Canton Ohio Feb 13 The trustees of Washington Nimishillen towns and Stark County Treasurer Snyder were temporarily enjoined by Judge Harter from collecting $630 in assessments on the Stark County Electric Railroad Co for work on highway intersections with the railroad line The company argues that Ohio statutes requiring railroads to build and maintain highway crossings do not apply to roads that use power other than steam.
In Cleveland on February 13 the Long family filed a common pleas suit against Nickel Plate Railway Co for 110000. They seek 30000 for John W Long and 10000 for deprivation of his wife's services and help of his son, 40000 for Richard A Long, 10000 for Mrs Louisa Long, and 10000 for Jessie Long for injuries from a collision at Mortimer Ohio on August 13 1905.
Dayton Feb 10 The tri church council adjourned Friday to meet on the call of the president and secretary within a year and a half. Committees handle creed Bacnaly and vested interests while a six member committee considers a name only after other business is settled.
Canton Ohio news reports Prosecutor Upham sues County Auditor Oberlin to force a $1,600 refund for clerk services charged to the boards of review in 1904 and 1905. Oberlin says he followed the law though neither he nor deputies attended regular board meetings as clerks.
The Ohio penitentiary board granted parole to George M. Collier former state examiner of stationary engineers who began his four year term March 25 1905 for embezzlement. A second parole went to Abner G Bingaman of Greene County serving a life sentence for second degree murder later commuted to ten years.
Four people nearly died from asphyxiation when a faulty natural gas heater filled the Hamlin home with fumes in Newark Ohio. Mrs Hamlin and daughter Florence were unconscious, Florence in serious condition. Rose and Alma Hamlin were overcome but revived. The 6 year old son slept through the incident unharmed.
The House subcommittee on a salary bill received from Attorney General Ellis an opinion stating that a county salary law set to go into effect would be unconstitutional. The note places Columbus on February 13 as the date of the development.
Perry W. Waite aged 45 formerly Toledo internal revenue collector and former Ohio Republican committee chairman died at Burgess hospital in Kalamazoo on Sunday night after a period of illness. He was a native of Ohio and had been active in state political affairs. Waite had recently resided in Toledo before his hospital admission in Kalamazoo.
Ohio legislature reports a series of bills and votes from February 7 to 15. The two cent railroad fare measure passes the house 104 to 1 and the senate by unanimous vote. other actions include reform bills on convict labor, local option enforcement, labor advertising, road funding, and bee disease control, plus a Niagara Falls treaty memorial.
Attorneys for Captain Taggart moved to dismiss Mrs. Taggart's appeal in the circuit court arguing the case is not appealable under state law and that the circuit court lacks appellate jurisdiction in the matter.
One hundred Cleveland ministers at the Central M C A denounced player Johnson for failing to support a stand against the saloon and dance hall evils in a February 16 event.
