The speaker cites a plan to hike fifty miles to promote health and stimulate business from shoe makers to retailers. They critique state layoffs by Gov. Rhodes and question sewer tap fees while noting Valentine’s Day.
In a short meeting Monday night the village council voted to turn over the sewer plant to the board of public affairs as the project nears completion since the plant is now in operation. The board accepted the plant through president John Nickles and noted bills will include sewer rental.
Gene Grim of Dalton has accepted the captaincy for the Heart Sunday Drive in the Dalton area. He works at the First National Bank of Dalton, is a Wooster College BA graduate, and a Dalton Bowling League president. Grim appeals for volunteers for the February 24 fund drive.
Wayne County Board of Health warns Sugar Creek Township that the rubbish dump on the Nathan Gerber farm will close if irresponsible persons continue dumping. Ellis Springer, clerk, says the site is for rubbish only and forbids food grain or animal matter.

Funeral services were held at 2 00 p m Tuesday at the Orrville Mennonite Church for Samuel J Zeigler 92 father of Russell Ziegler of Dalton Interment was in Oak Grove Church cemetery near Smithville He died Saturday night at the Home for the Aged near Rittman He formerly lived in Orrville and was a retired carpenter Survived by another son Edwin of Creston a daughter Mrs Kenneth Hilty of Orrville two brothers 15 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren
Brownies announce a Monday February 18 meeting to replace a prior cancellation. They will gather at the regular meeting place and travel to Polly Gerber's home. Mrs Earl Hofacre leads transportation and mothers should pick up children at Polly Gerber's residence at 5 00.
The Friendly Neighbors Homemakers Club schedules a 12 noon covered dish dinner on Thursday February 21 in the church social rooms. Meat rolls and beverages provided. members bring a dish and own service. Mrs. C R Goudy leads devotions. a high school group provides music. Roll call focuses on Washington or Lincoln. Officers to be elected. Hostesses named Alden Rudy, John Sandwith, Carl Shisler, Lee Stahl, and Carl Brown.
The Dalton Bulldogs rolled to a 100 to 54 victory over Shreve as Miller poured in 42 points on six of seven from two point range and four of seven from three. McCullough added 22 from the outside and Renner 13 as Dalton led 24-11 after one and 52-25 at halftime.

Events include Dalton Doylestown basketball at Doylestown, Rotary at Methodist, Grange at VFW hall, Kidron PTA, Dalton PTA, Homemakers at Methodist, and fire department gathering. Cheryl L. Simpson, daughter of Mr and Mrs Homer Simpson, wins the 1963 Betty Crocker Search local Homemaker of Tomorrow at Dalton High School. She advances toward state honors with a first place test score, earning eligibility for one of 102 scholarships totaling $110,000, plus potential future national awards and educational tours.
