Honorably discharged veteran Charles Bach returns home
Charles Bach received an honorable discharge after three years of service. Inducted February 18, 1943, he served at Camp Swift Texas overseas from February 18, 1945, in France Germany and Czechoslovakia and fought in the Ruhr pocket and Ardennes. He returned June 30 1945 then spent four months in Japan with the 97th Division. He and his wife and daughter Connie reside in Dalton. 1st Sgt Donivan Longworth of Camp Lee Virginia enjoys a furlough with his parents and wife. Longworth has eight years of service and wears the American defense American theatre and ETO ribbons.

The Dalton Garden Club met at Mrs. E. W. Spence's home for the regular monthly gathering. Mrs. James Mumaw read An Old Sweetheart of Mine, Mrs. Wm Blethyn spoke on famous gardens, and roll call highlighted facts about Washington and Lincoln. The specimen committee presented three displays Lincoln's birthplace, a Washington and cherry arrangement, and a Valentine centerpiece. The meeting adjourned to March with Mrs. L. D. Poor as hostess.

Death of Dalton businessman Eugene Houghton at 81
Eugene Houghton 81 longtime Dalton resident and head of E Houghton and Co Pottery died Friday at Massillon City Hospital after a brief illness. He founded the pottery with his grandfather in 1840 and was active in Dalton Methodist Church and the Community Club. Survivors include widow Alice, daughter Grace Rudy of Cleveland, sons Park Massillon Donald Orrville Victor Dalton, seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Funeral from his residence followed by services at the Methodist church with Rev Flauhaus and Rev Spence. Burial in Dalton Cemetery. Desvoignes Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mrs Vera Woods Dies at 43 in Massillon Hospital
Vera Woods 43 died Sunday morning in Massillon city hospital after several days of illness. She leaves husband John two sons Dean and Daryl two daughters Norma Jean and Audrey and former husband Wm Santmyer’s four sons Loyal Dale Clair and Myron. Also a grandchild, her parents Mr and Mrs Milton Chapman, and brother George Chapman. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Methodist church with Rev L E Flauhus officiating. Burial in Dalton cemetery. Stockham Funeral Home assisted.

Mrs Pearl Snyder 74 died Wednesday morning at her home six miles south of Dalton after a brief illness. She is survived by brother Mark Rose of Perrysville and sister Mrs Walter Blackston of south of Dalton. Funeral services are set for Friday Feb 15 at 2 pm at Desvoignes Funeral Home Mt Eaton. Burial will be in Union Cemetery West Lebanon. Friends may call at the funeral home.

New store managers take over Seth Wright's five and ten cent shop with Mr and Mrs David Wright of New York joining as new managers. Local updates include hospitalizations transportation notes and a Dalton high school basketball win over Rittman 27 to 20.
