Dalton’s oldest business block is being dismantled by H. Schrader wrecking of Massillon. The three story building, once a pharmacy and public hall, housed Odd Fellows, Good Templars, Masons, and various merchants. It will be cleared for an up to date gasoline service station run by Clair Eckard.
A local community auction is set for Dalton this Saturday at 1 00 P M. Residents can bid on assorted items with proceeds supporting neighborhood projects. Local organizers urge punctual attendance and cash payments.
The Dalton Farmers Institute officers and cast enjoyed a six o'clock steak dinner at the Book restaurant with twenty two in attendance. Russell Hasseman acted as toastmaster and several toasts followed before the group joined a Wooster show. Attendees included D B Amstutz and wife, Lee Douglas and wife, Merle Douglas and wife, Dennis Arnold and wife, C C Moser and wife, D H Scott and wife, Ralph Gonter and wife, Helen Berg, Leona Amstutz, Harriett McFarren, Lloyd Buss, Raymond Hess, Leroy Moser, Dean McAfee, and Russell Hasseman.
Congressman William R. Thom resumes duties in Washington D C after a two week Florida trip for neuritis and a stay at St Francis hospital Miami Beach. Doctors advised a complete rest but he spends several hours at his office daily and plans to resume normal routine soon.
Mr and Mrs Oliver Homan move into a hotel property as icy roads and frozen pipes persist. Frances Gibson of Canton visits the Gibson home. Mildred Hofstetter stays with her mother Anna Hofstetter. The W H M Society of the M E church meets at Mrs Lloyd Poorman's. John V Berg and family visit Wm Williams in Hartville. Louis and Frank Gerber travel to Miami Florida. Raymond Ross the local J P speaks at Marshallville Farmers Institute Friday afternoon. John Holm family visit Supt Hathaway and wife. Florence Booker and Grace Speaker visit Canton teachers. George Lehman of Orrville and Willis Sommer of Kidron visit H J Kraus. W B Lechot and John D Lechot of Akron visit H H Weimer. A W Studer of Canton also visits. M E church women plan a banquet February 15 at 6 30 PM in the church basement for Wayne Co Rural Mail Carriers and families.
Mrs Morris Hershey hosted a six o'clock chicken dinner for twenty three guests celebrating her husband birthday. The gathering included the Crone Brenner Wecht and Hershey families and others from Massillon East Greenville and local area. A Valentine exchange for M E Sunday School class No. 9 was followed by devotions readings prizes and a farewell to Mrs Nellie Hunsicker. Dorothy Niess birthday surprise featured Norma Jean Wecht Martha Gault Pearl Niess and others. An oyster supper at Leo Gault’s had euchre prizes won by Fred Levengood and Leo Gault with multiple attendees listed.
A dinner honoring the joint 26th wedding anniversaries of Mr. and Mrs. Karl Michener and Mr. and Mrs. Geo Harrah was held at the Michener home on Sunday February 9. Attendees included Karl and Miriam Michener Samuel Crickle Jans Crickle Faye Michener Willard Michener Jimmie Michener Lloyd Poorman Don McFarren Geof Harrah and Dale Harrah.
Chas W Bilderback of Orrville Wayne County Ohio announces his run for sheriff in the Democratic primaries in May He is forty one years old married with one child and has worked for the Penna Railroad for twenty four years
A full page portrait of George Washington in color will be published in next Sunday's Chicago Herald and Examiner. Adv. Mr and Mrs Clarence Vaughn and sons Roy Don and Edward of Akron were Sunday guests of John Caldwell. The Caldwells and guests visited Mrs Ida Edwards at Brewster in the afternoon.
Ernest Harrison editor of The Rittman Press announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for Wayne county representative in the state legislature. He seeks the post left vacant by D. W. Gatehouse and cites rural schooling industrial upbringing and broad newspaper contacts as qualifications for broad county support.
The boys physical education class led by Coach Johnson demonstrated tumbling and pyramid building during the chapel program. Mr Hathaway spoke on the value of physical education. The Dalton High affirmative debate team defeated Apple Creek on the public expense medical system issue debated before Judge Harrison of the Rittman Press. Dalton High varsity and reserves both lost to Smithville in two games. reserves 18-15 and varsity 15-13. Mt Eaton visits Dalton for three games Friday night.
To comply with new rulings Scott's Store has blanket certificates of exemption for farmers horticulturists and fortified cultivators and blanket resale certificates available for use.
Vernon Hofstetter of Detroit spent a week with his mother Mrs Anna Hofstetter on F Main street then departed for Detroit. The item references time and local printing at the Gazette office in Dalton Ohio and mentions a brief visit.
Mrs W P Slusser is ill at her home on N Millet. Mrs Olive Horst of Orrville spent the weekend with Mrs Edna Camp. The V W class of the Presbyterian church will meet with Mrs J N Moser on Thursday night this week. Mrs Raymond Wecht will have charge of the program. Please bring a covered dish.
The Dalton Community Club will gather Thursday evening February 20 in the D. H. S. auditorium. A pleasing program is being arranged. Blank books and box files are available at Scott's.
