A village discussion reveals John Nickles refusing a council seat. He cites his four years on the board of public affairs and upcoming water sewer projects as reasons he can serve the village better there. Residents are urged to mail encouragement for his continued board membership.
The Dalton Garden Club held a February meeting where Mrs. Paul Syler installed officers. New president Mrs. Carl Lawrence, vice president Mrs. Emerson Shanklin, secretary Mrs. Harold Schupbach, treasurer Mrs. Dale Lowe, librarian Mrs. Ralph Kurzen, and historian Mrs. Dan Rudy were announced.
Funeral rites were held Saturday for John F. Moser 16 of 407 West Main who died February 3 at Dunlap hospital in Orrville. A Sugar Creek township resident and former Republic Steel worker, he is survived by his wife Nola a son two daughters three sisters and seven grandchildren. Rev Paul R Price officiated and burial was in Dalton cemetery with pallbearers named Clarence Gerber John Sommer Dan and Edison Kratzer Richard and Marion Moser.
Funeral services were held for Mrs. Harry Buchwalter 73 of Orrville at Pleasant View Mennonite church. She died February 4 in Dunlap hospital after a year of illness. Survived by her husband and 10 descendants, her service was conducted by Revs Elmer Yoder and Willard Ressler, with burial in church cemetery.

The junior class plans a semi formal Queen of Hearts Ball Saturday February 13 in the high school gym from 8 to 12. Admission costs 50 cents for singles and 75 cents per couple. King and queen chosen from the junior class will be crowned during the dance.
Engaged couple Ardith Joan Nussbaum and Norman H. Yoder are announced by their Dalton families. Ardith, a 1964 Dalton High and Weaver Airline School graduate, works for the U S Navy in Washington, D C. Norman, a Dalton High alumnus, works for the U S Government in Beltsville Maryland. A spring wedding is planned.
Life and Light, heard 13 years in southeastern Ohio, now airs on WTOF FM Canton 98.1 Monday to Friday at 7 45 a m. Bible teacher Llewellyn Thompson will lead a four day conference February 14 to 17 with an afternoon rally February 14 at Calvary Baptist church Moffitt Heights. Rev Louie J DiPlacido is pastor. Miss Elizabeth Jeanneret graduates from Timken Mercy hospital school of practical nursing. Sugar Creek Grange plans a volunteer program at its February 16 meeting with John Kirk speaking about a trip west.
Raymond Weisgarber was admitted to Dunlap Memorial Hospital in Orrville on Monday. The Dalton Rotary Club's pancake supper Saturday evening was a great success and attendees expressed appreciation. Deputy registrar Myrtle Wilson announced she will start taking applications for reserved license plates on February 15. The license bureau is located at the G. G. Grim Co. corner of routes.
Sunday activities at Dalton Methodist Church include a sermon Yearning for God by Rev. Paul R. Price with 10 45 a m services, Sunday school at 9 30 a m, and a youth fellowship at 7 30 p m. The official board urges letters to state lawmakers on three liquor bills, with two to be defeated. A nominating committee meets Friday at 7 30 p m. Plates go on sale March 1. United Presbyterian circles report Bible study, officers listed, and Circle 3 to serve the Chamber of Commerce dinner February 23.
The First National Bank of Dalton will close on Friday February 12 in observance of Lincoln's birthday.
Council accepted the resignation of councilman Clarence Troyer at Monday’s meeting. Troyer said his trucking business keeps him away from meetings and he cannot perform duties. Mrs. Winona Stahl spoke on sewer assessments for her lots and sought removal or future access.
Vern Hoobler, clerk of the board of public affairs, will hold an office hour in the town hall on Thursday February 18 from 7 00 to 9 00 p m Those seeking answers about the new water and sewer system may ask between those hours Council will take thirty days to select a replacement for Troyer John Nickles was voted in at a meeting held after adjournment Nickles from the Dalton board of public affairs would have to resign to accept The council approved Taylor Det erich s recommendation and named a new street in the Mason allotment Lincolnview drive The mayor reported a building permit fee of 140 collected from Dr James Steiner.
In the Dalton men s bowling league Veryl Bach led singles with 225 and Jack Kula 222. Jay Burns topped the 565 series while Norman Schlabach had 561 and Chuck Sohar 548. Kidron Body led single game with 949 and top series with 2743, followed by Culligan Soft Water 2618 and V F W 2616. Multiple bowlers reached 500s with several 200 games noted.
The Rev. Harry H. Klee will preach a fourth sermon in a series titled Does Religion Save based on Jeremiah. The choir directed by Miss Kaye Rogers and Mrs. John Sommer will perform Forever Worthy Is Thy Lamb by Tschaikowsky. Church school led by Elder Jerry Hackett meets at 9:30 a.m. CYF study at 7:30 p.m., women’s association study at 7:30 p.m., junior choir at 3:30 p.m., adult choir at 7:15 p.m. Communicant cafes meet Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. and Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
Friday February 12 includes Band in 9th period and a 2:35 pep rally with basketball at Waynedale. Saturday February 13 hosts a junior class Valentine dance at 8:00 PM. February 15 features Band in 9th period and after school basketball practice. February 16 has Student Council meeting and junior business trip to Wooster Stock Exchange plus FFA hunting event with guest speaker and after school basketball. February 17 lists Group guidance, Band, freshman basketball game at Wayne, varsity practice after school. February 18 covers pictures for the annual, Band in 9th period and basketball practice.
The Bulldogs won twice in the WCL over the weekend, beating Norwayne 56 52 and Smithville 69 60. Nussbaum Oswald and Gonter led scorers with 20 each in the Norwayne game, and Dalton hit 42 percent from the field.
The Junior Women's club of Wooster teams with Judge Leo R. Kindswatter to form a Wayne County Juvenile Court advisory council. Former Probate Judge Myron Brenneman advocates public information and prevention efforts to address juvenile issues. The first meeting is Tuesday March 16 at 8 pm in the Probate Court chambers on the county courthouse second floor.
