Dalton Citizens' Road Committee Forms to Redirect Highways

A Dalton group organized as the Dalton Citizens' Road Committee with officers Paul Shultz president Carroll Scott vice president C F Buchwalter secretary and Dave Wright treasurer. They invite public participation and aim to submit a lower cost counter proposal to the Ohio Director of Highways through the village council, hiring an engineer and lawyer to prepare drawings. The plan seeks to route new highways through Dalton to avoid home and business damage while supporting growth.

McDowell Hardware Marks 75 Years in Dalton

The McDowell hardware firm celebrates 75 years in Dalton with an Anniversary Sale starting next Monday for one week. Founded in 1874 by M F McDowell the business grew under C R McDowell & Son and once led local grain buying. John M McDowell will manage the sale while the senior member tours Florida.

Route 30 debate stirs Dalton plans and parking hopes

In a Random Riting column Harold Miray questions an eight million dollar bypass proposal for Dalton. He argues the southern route around the village would divert traffic from the main street and suggests widening and straightening the west end while freeing main street from parking to relieve bottlenecks. Fractures Ankle and Arm in Canton Forge Incident

Fractured left ankle and crushed left arm and thumb suffered by Ervin Sword of North Church Street after a hoist he was repairing at Canton Drop Forge Co. collapsed. He is receiving treatment at Aultman Hospital.

Golden Wedding Anniversary Honored by WNBK Program

Mr and Mrs Teeple celebrated their golden anniversary with a televised tribute on WNBK Cleveland. The airing featured their picture and a song. Attending were Glenn Teeple and wife Janice, Joan Bodager, H E Arnold, J F Moser and wife, Marion Tschanz and wife, plus J N Moser and son Marion.

The Dalton Community club gathers this Thursday at 6 30 PM in the Methodist dining rooms for supper. Paul Stockham, program chairman, will introduce Alton Thomas of Massillon executive secretary of the Urban League to speak on World Brotherhood.

Dalton Ladies Auxiliary valentine treat for Massillon veterans

The Dalton Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW distributed donuts candy and Hershey bars to 200 veterans at Massillon State Hospital on Valentine Day. The Dalton VFW Post donated 30 dollars for the treat. Next meeting is Thursday at 8 led by Pres Florida Yeaman with guest Mrs Bertram Sickels and social committee members Helen Marty Edna Arnold Floris Sommer.

School Board Sets Plans and Possible March Bids

The Board of Education met on Monday February 7 to approve an advance settlement for current expenses and discuss building plans with architect Mr Spahn. Bids are expected by mid March with color scheme studies to follow and a Dalton addition drawing on display at a local merchant.
