Our January paper drive collected 14630 pounds of scrap paper. Dal ton and Sugar Creek township schools praised the cooperation and the township trustees for using the truck. A February 23 county wide tin collection will be through the schools. Bring cleaned, flattened tin cans to the school house by February 21. no aluminum or foil. no cans without tin.
A brief notice lists new telephone connections for Reverend W Spence at 5901 and Frank W Wilford at 38852. The item notes the installation of phones for these individuals in the local exchange.
The First National Bank will be closed all day and evening Saturday February 12 on account of a legal holiday. C F Buchwalter cashier.
George A Berg buys the Samuel B Martin property on North Church Street. Newton J Fetter purchases the Leroy Rudy residence on West Main Street. The Fetters sell their farm west of town to Roy Horst of Orrville.
The Dalton Community Club will meet in the U P church basement on Thursday evening February 10 at 6 80. Paul Schultz leads the program and Dr R E C McDougall Supt of Orrville schools will be guest speaker discussing Japan. Menu includes baked ham browned potatoes yellow wax beans pickled eggs and beets baked apples cherry pie buns jelly and coffee.
Sgt Dale Steiner of Atlanta arrived to visit his newborn daughter at Massillon hospital. Lt Ralph M Graber left Wednesday for California after a home front visit, flying from Cleveland. Cpl Jack Mumaw, MP, from the west coast, returned last Friday for about ten days. He notes improved travel but was 14 hours late reaching Chicago.
Cpl. Don McFarren of Godman Field Kentucky returns on furlough with L. D. Poor man unit. Lieut John Schlarb Signal Corps visits friends on leave. Set and Mrs Millard Starcher of Laredo Field Texas are on furlough. Pvt Murray Lehman Ft Knox Kentucky off duty Saturday guest of Mrs Balra Aristat. Sgt Wesley Warnock moved from South Dakota to a Denver rest camp for returning overseas flyers. Seaman Robert Goudy on week long leave with parents wife and baby daughter.
Born Tuesday morning at Massillon City hospital to Mr and Mrs Orlo J Blackston RD 2 Dalton a daughter. Born Wednesday morning at Massillon City hospital to Mr and Mrs Ivan Moser a daughter.
Dalton fire fighters battled a blaze at the Ed Waisner home in East Greenville destroying a smokehouse and meat with $100 estimated loss. The city hosted basketball results: Dalton beat Beach City 42 to 40. Reserves 24 to 16. Dalton 53 to 31 over Burbank, Reserves 21 to 15. Roderick W. Spence, Ph.D., son of Rev and Mrs E W Spence, of Dalton, plans a visit before a Government service stint.
Don and King Dalton's wonder hoops appeared on Spang Jake and Lena at WTAM Sunday and received a $25 war bond each. The total will be raised to $150 and divided equally among the Red Cross March of Dimes and Dogs of War organizations per Dr G L DeArment.

Mrs L D Poorman led the program on Students in Our Schools with participants including Mesdames Weisgarber Myers Kraus Uphoff E L Slusser and Miss Luella Sturgis.
Gasoline fumes in a tank undergoing repairs exploded last Thursday. Bill Haverstock was struck by the blast and wounded in Massillon where a surgeon treated him. His glasses flew across the garage but remained unbroken as residents called it a miracle.
