Second Big Snow Paralyzes Streets as Cities Brace for Cleanup
The heavy snow fall last Thursday reached 10 inches with an inch of ice and sleet, closing schools for the week and driving temperatures to 8 to 15 below zero. Dalton’s streets were clogged with piles of snow, snow plows cleared central districts, and garages filled as vehicles waited for parking and service. A weekend warm-up allowed some removal efforts to begin.

Fire destroys Moffitt Heights landmark in Dalton
A fire at the John Boutson home on Moffitt Heights near Massillon gutted the nine room frame house after two alarms. Firefighters saved the garage and contents from the first floor but the building was a total loss with an estimated $12 000 in damage. The house had been owned by Mr and Mrs John Boutson and was formerly associated with Rev and Mrs Nathan Moffitt after the community’s naming.

Reverend Alva J. Wengerd dies of heart attack at 52
The Rev. Alva J. Wengerd of Pleasant View Mennonite church near Dalton died Friday from a heart attack while unloading coal at Ohio Match Co in Wadsworth. Survived by his widow Sarah, five daughters and three sons plus two adopted children and many siblings. Funeral Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in Pleasant View church with Bishop D D Miller officiating. Interment in church cemetery.

Ruth Ressler, six, returned home from Massillon hospital after a stay. Several residents moved or traveled for courses and family visits.
