Dalton Farmers Institute Opens With Prominent Speakers

The February 9 Farm Institute in Sugar Creek Township promotes Dalton as Ohio’s largest institute. Leaders include C. R. Titlow Mrs. C. I. Lau Atty Gen Bricker Director Hanefeld and others. Local residents are urged to attend for benefits and to help make Dalton the permanent home of Ohio’s Largest Institute.

Lunch Served By Ladies Of U P Church At Farmers Institute

The Ladies of the U P Church will host a lunch in the church basement during the Farmers Institute on February 9 and 10. Menu includes chicken soup with crackers for 10 cents, vegetable soup for 8 cents, sandwiches hamburgers and wieners for 5 to 10 cents, pie 5 cents, and coffee. Proceeds support church activities.

Serious Injuries From Dynamite Explosion Near Pleasant View

Earl Ott of Burton City, brother of Walter Ott, was seriously injured Tuesday afternoon when a dynamite charge failed to explode and exploded as he investigated the hang fire. The blast crushed his chest, blinded him in one eye, and caused additional injuries. He was rushed to Worcester hospital with poor prospects for recovery.

Canton driver killed in Massillon truck wreck

Killed at Massillon Wade Skull 33 of 12th street NW Canton died at 7 35 p m in Massillon City hospital from injuries when the truck he was driving was demolished on the Penna Lincoln Way crossing at Massillon at 4 35 Saturday by a fast freight. D B Buck Warner 28 also of Canton riding with him was killed instantly. Shull was a lifelong Canton resident and a member of Washington council 12 Jr O U A M and Moose lodge. Survived by widow Mrs Ethel Shull two sons Edwin and Leonard one stepson Russell Harmon parents Mr and Mrs Leonard E Shull and three brothers all of Canton.

Orlando Neal Dies After Stroke in Canton Area

Orlando Neal, 72, died last Thursday morning at his son Lawrence Neal's home on the former Santmyer farm near Dalton after a stroke a week earlier. He moved here about a year ago from Canton and is survived by five sons Lawrence, William, Howard, Olen and Russell all of Canton. a daughter Mrs Edward Rushong of Canton. 13 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral was held Saturday at Murray Funeral Home with Rev. L G Miller officiating. Interment in Forest Hill Cemetery, Canton.

Parker Injured In Auto Crash East Of Town

Joe Parker of the Ohio Fuel Gas Co. was seriously hurt Monday when his car skidded on an icy road east of town and struck a telephone pole. He suffered a broken rib and other cuts and bruises.

Dalton High Wins Second in Ohio Apple Judging

Dalton High apple judging team led by David Lehman Dale Miller and Jay Buchwalter with Ward Hofstetter alternate took second at Ohio State University Feb 2 scoring 5200 of 6000. Savannah won with 5300. Fifty apples were identified across ten classes among 70 teams. Coach Stanley Tschantz and Veryl Bach previously won contests.

Dalton High Nets Big Win and Season Finale Approaches

Dalton High defeated Marshallville 64 to 13 on their home floor. W Bach and Martin each scored 14 as 28 points were shared. Dalton Reserves beat Marshallville Reserves 12. Dalton Merchants lost to Wooster Dairies but won the Independent tournament by beating Orrville DeMolays and East Greenville. Varsity and Reserves beat Smithville 26 to 18 and 15 to 10 respectively. Next home game vs Mt Eaton Feb 8 before County Tournament Feb 17 in Wooster. Ice cream and snacks fund the Athletic Association. Lunches support the Home Economies club.

Headliners At Dalton Farmers Institute On Two Day Program

The Dalton Farmers Institute Friday and Saturday features Earl Hane Feld director of agriculture in Gov. George White's cabinet, John W. Bricker attorney general of Ohio, WM R Thom congressman, Harry A Caton national Grange secretary, and Martin L. Davey who has announced his candidacy for governor. The event, at the high school auditorium, is a major Wayne county program drawing regional attention.
