C Stuart Rila executive director Buckeye Council Boy Scouts told Dalton Rotarians at the Dalton Methodist Church of scouting activities and a 150000 plus investment in Camp Buckeye near Beach City. He noted 375 percent growth in ranks to over 2000 in 12 years and urged community support for the program.

The Dalton Community Club holds its regular monthly meeting on Thursday February 14 at the Presbyterian Church. Dinner at 6 30 followed by the business meeting and program.

Dalton High School announced the third six weeks honor roll with forty two students on the first semester list. All honor roll members include Hilda Berg and Ruth Geiser among others while many seniors juniors sophomores and freshmen earned no grades below B.

Carl Hauenstein appoints school board committees

Dalton local school board president Carl Hauenstein announced committee appointments at the Board of Education meeting. Appointees include Merle Lehman, Frank Nussbaum, Ellis Sprunger, Paul Amstutz, and advisor Carl Hauenstein. The board adopted a tax advance request and approved bills for cafeteria and operating costs.

Dalton teen named Homemaker of Tomorrow in local program

Phyllis Bixler a Dalton High School senior is named Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow for the Dalton area after scoring highest on a homemaking exam. Her win advances to a national competition with scholarships and travel prizes, while her school gains Britannica sets for the district.

Subscription Rates To Advance March 1st

Yearly subscription rates to the Dalton Gazette will rise from 200 to 2.50 per year after March 1 1957 due to higher operating costs. Ohio Newspaper Association reports weekly papers average 244 per year based on 262 Ohio weeklies. Renewals stay at 2.00 until March 1 and office hours are 8 to 5 daily.

Subscriptions Renewed By Mail Check Or Money Order

Patrons may renew their subscriptions by mailing a check or money order. The renewal adds 12 months to the current service.

Buckeye Feeds Defeat Gerbers To Lead Dalton Bowling

Buckeye Feeds defeated Gerber Meats three games to one to lead the Dalton bowling league by one game. Adams posted 1–0, while Douglas Insurance topped total pins with 2734 and Al Martin posted the season’s high single of 257. Chick Sand led with a 609 series, two 600s occurred, and many bowlers surpassed 500 with several in the 500s.

Annual Tuscarawas Two Institute Set Feb 8-9

The 29th Tuscarawas Two Community Institute will meet February 8 and 9 at the Crystal Springs Grange Hall. The program begins Friday at 9 30 am with Rev Frank Zartman delivering the invocation. Principal speakers include Mrs Paul Maxwell of Cardington Ohio Rev Zartman Charles Peters of Minerva and Mrs Bertha Phillips and Wilbur C Roberts from Stark County Extension. Schools and musical groups from the county will perform during the two day session concluding Saturday afternoon.

Dalton Police Committee Recommends Retention of Chief Berg

The Dalton Village Council police committee recommends keeping Chief Raymond Berg and Patrolman Harold Schupbach at annual salaries of 350 and 300 dollars to meet the 1957 budget. They urge minimal new equipment purchases and moved police equipment from Berg’s residence to the town hall to avoid duplicate purchases and aid both police and fire departments.

Waynedale Bears Rally to Beat Bulldogs 84 48

Waynedale Golden Bears defeated the Dalton Bulldogs 84 to 48 in Wayne County League action. Jeff Eckard led Dalton with 17 points, Don Adams 13, while Waynedale's Ed Miley and Harold Oswald scored 22 each and Gary Musselman added 21. Dalton reserves won 58 51 in OT as Waynedale JV staged late rally and defenders fouled to secure the win.
