The Presbyterian church board of trustees meets Friday to reorganize for the year. New trustees are Russell Dague Troy Douglas Guy Snyder and Harley Nussbaum. Communicants class meets Saturday at 10 a.m. at the pastor's home. Sunday services include lay leadership Elder Lee H. Douglas speaking and a Men's Club meeting at 8 p.m. Lee Douglas reports on the convention. An officer election is planned. Mrs Paul Steckham is added as corresponding secretary of the Women’s Association. Mr and Mrs L M Marker attend Wooster Presbytery and Mr Marker preaches becoming chairman of the foreign missions committee. Men’s Day is Feb 8 with the Men’s Club in charge and Mr Lee Douglas addressing the congregation. A birthday cake highlighted the Women’s Association annual dinner with mission table decor and a program led by Mrs C R Goudy and others.
Mrs Wertz hosted the Bethany Class January party at her E Main Street home for 25 members. Mrs Lautenschlager opened with hymns and prayer, devotions from Corinthians, and reports on the past year. Contests were won by Laura Amstutz and Jul Lautenschlager, with refreshments served.
Mr and Mrs Richard Smith announce the birth of a son named Rickey born Wednesday January 28 1953 in Bowling Green Kentucky. The newborn is the first grandchild of Mr and Mrs Dewey Smith Schultz Ave W. The senior Smiths left Friday for Bowling Green to visit the arrival.
Willard Groff, who bought the auto about 10 days ago, started the Packard on his farm northeast of Dalton and noticed a fire. A passing truck driver assisted before the Dalton Volunteer Fire department arrived, and extinguishers on the Groff property halted the blaze.
John Henry Saurer, 74, of North Lawrence, died January 28 in Massillon City Hospital after two weeks of illness. Retired farmer, he lived in the North Lawrence area over 30 years. Survived by his widow Louise Saucer, three sons Gilbert Wilbert and Howard Saucer, two daughters Edna Eicher and Opal Harig, sister Mrs Dorson Groff, five grandchildren. Funeral held Saturday at Desvergnes Funeral Home Mt Eaton. Interment Westlawn Cemetery Mt Eaton with Rev A C Shonkwiler officiating.
The three day old son of Mr and Mrs Guy Guzzo Jr of Wooster formerly of Dalton died Monday afternoon at Wooster Community hospital. Surviving are his grandparents Mrs Anna Guzzo Wooster and Mr and Mrs Theophil Flueckiger RD 1 Dalton. Graveside services were held at St Marys church cemetery Wooster Tuesday afternoon.
Dr. Richard McDugall will preach at Dalton Methodist Church at 10 30 a m on Sunday February 8. The theme We Believe In Man accompanies Race Relations Sunday with an offering for Negro educational work. Youth Fellowships meet at 6 30 and 7 30 p m.
The Dalton Community Club sponsors a 1953 special license plate with Dalton and Ohio outline. Plates fit the front bracket and can be bought at Bach Service Lta Wrights 5 10 Douglas Inc or Scott Drug Store. Proceeds fund civic projects. Weekend guests of Mrs Alma Williams included Clyde Beck family Thomas Cully Becky Berg and Everett Foote.
The January meeting of the Bonus Comitus club was hosted by Mrs Stanley Douglas with Mrs Robert Berg as hostess. Mrs Warren Keister attended as a welcome guest. refreshments were served cafeteria style. A February meeting will be at Mrs Volney Yungen's home.
A crowded gym hosted a tense volley match with numerous players from ParticiPants and neighbors. Coaches SuPer Gas and V. Bach led teams including Scott Fire, Bob Buchaan, Norm Berg, and Harlan Thompson in a spirited contest noted for quick serves and close margins.

Ohio wildlife figures show autos accounted for 547 deer killed in 1952, topping the 425 deer taken by hunters in 27 counties. Northeastern counties reported high auto fatalities led by Trumbull with 59, followed by Cuyahoga 20, Mahoning 43, Ashtabula 35, Summit 33, and Portage 25, prompting landowner objections and exclusion from the open deer season. Deer numbers imply rising population and ongoing auto damage and injuries from crashes. Bill Moser, son of Ivan Moser, is ill with flu.
