Thomas Thompson colored was hanged on the 29th in Chestertown Maryland for the murder of William Adams on August 22 1891. The execution marked the first in that county since 1851. A Colorado supreme court writ of supersedeas freed Dr Graves on bail while docket crowds delay his case for two to three years. A Houston Texas night abduction left Jos Shields dead hanging from a limb. Terre Haute Indiana jurors condemned Musgrave to ten years and a 300 fine in an insurance swindle case with possible appeal to the state supreme court.

Dispatch from Mentone reports the death of Rev. Charles I. Spurgeon, born June 18, 1696 in Kelvedon, Essex. The famed preacher built Waterbeach chapel, rose to London fame in 186K, with crowds at New Park Street and Exeter Hall, published widely, and left a lasting Protestant influence despite leaving the Baptist Union in 1887.
Port Townsend Wash February 1 The steamer from Alaska reports ten miners are believed dead from hunger or exposure after a party including Orton and Wheelock of Juneau left for Lituay Bay with eight months of provisions. A relief expedition was sent from Juneau but Major Maynard declined aid due to risk and doubt of rescue.
Washington February 1 1892 secretary Blaine forwards a reply to Chile's apology note of the 25th inst praising the withdrawal of the Matta circular and urging a cordial, peaceful adjustment. The president expresses pleasure at Chile's regret for the Baltimore sailors attack and readiness to meet friendly overtures, aiming to settle reparations through diplomatic methods.
In Herena Montana a posse of thirty stock growers pursued a horse stealing gang south of Yellowstone county. Four bandits were killed in a recent clash as the group estimates losses near 600 horses. The desperadoes total about fifty with reinforcements sought, while a $20 000 fund is being raised for the campaign.
