Dalton residents note missed chamber dues and attend annual meeting while the Gazette settles its membership status. Community notices include fundraisers for the Methodist ham dinner February 22, Explorer Scouts potluck, Sabin polio vaccine drive results, Presbyterian Youth Sunday program details, and Circle Night events for church ladies.
Rotary club president Harold Douglas chaired a Monday session. Raymong Berg spoke on Civil Defense stressing preparedness and fallout shelter concepts. Visitors Tink Ul rich and Sanford Reams from Massillon attended. future talks by Ralph Fisher and James K. Leedy were announced. David Lehman returned to active membership.
The menu lists daily meals from Monday February 5 to Saturday February 10. Items include Italian spaghetti peanut butter sandwiches cheese wedge fruit milk. meat loaf mashed potatoes relish plain sandwiches cabbage salad fruit milk. chop suey Chinese noodles buttered corn salad fruit milk. barbecue Wiener sandwiches buttered peas and carrots lettuce salad fruit milk. tomato soup crackers cheese wedge plain sandwiches tossed salad fruit milk. county music contest turkey and noodles molded vegetable salad hot rolls jam ice cream milk.
Dalton led early and the Bulldogs built a 14 9 first quarter lead but Smithville tied it at 41 41 entering the final period. Zeigler hit key free throws, Smithville edged Dalton 46 45 as Zeigler led with 17 points. Miller added 14 and Zuercher 10.
About 125 Post and Auxiliary members and families attended the Dalton VFW family night on Sunday January 28 to mark the 16th anniversary of the post. 7 charter members and 7 post commanders were present as District Commander Frank Lawrence lauded 75 percent local membership and 100 percent post membership, with a trophy to be awarded at the Canton district meeting March 3 and 4. A local quartet and slides show highlighted post activities and Memorial Day plans.
A mass meeting proclaims support for a five hour work day for electrical workers and homemakers. The text mocks promises from advertisers politicians and bragging about electrical paraphernalia while railing against labor promises and political slogans.
Rev Paul Price will preach on Strengthen Thy Brethren at 10 45 a m Sunday worship at Dalton Methodist Church. Cherub choir directed by Elaine Kerstetter will sing. Organist is I Glen Berg. Sunday School meets 9 30 with James Weisgarber in charge. Price attends a seminar at Garrett Biblical Seminary Evanston IL.
The Happy Klan Klub will hold their February meeting at the home of Mrs Morris Huntsberger.
Henry-Thomas Dalton was elected oriental guide at the annual Al Koran Shrine officers election in Cleveland. The position is a step toward eventually becoming potentate of the 13,000-member Masonic organization.
Russell Gregory, Bluffton College student, visits Dalton parents during midterm break. Dal ton schools suffer flu illness reducing attendance. Brownie Troop 227 marks annual birthday party with pins and cards. Dalton residents visit relatives in Cambridge. Mrs. Alice Scott remains bedfast at 90. Thomas, elected potentate of the Shriners, rises from oriental guide with strong local Masonic ties and service on the Dalton school board.
Dr John Williams travels to Wichita Kansas to deliver daily chapel talks during Friends University Religious Emphasis Week February 5 to 9. He will lead morning services and conduct evening rites. Guest preacher February 4 at 10 30 a m is Dr Walter Williams of Damascus. The ladies choir performs Seek Ye the Lord. Youth Fellowship meets at 7 p m.
Cub Scout Pack number 22 of Dalton held its monthly pack meeting Saturday evening January 27 at the Methodist Church in the social rooms. Cubmaster Eugene Edwards opened the meeting and Asst. Cubmaster Ted Hobart gave the opening prayer. Den 2 with Mrs. Den Schumakr conducted opening ceremonies. Group singing led by Austin Ober. An 8 o’clock future meeting time was decided during the business session. A film titled Our Trip to England was presented by Ir Collier of Sippo District Massillon with narration and crafts from England. Refreshments were served by Den 3 with Mrs. Ted Hobert and Mrs. McGraner.
Earl Gulley will be the next guest caller for Shirts and Skirts square dance. Mr and Mrs Bob Sword and Mr and Mrs Herb Nussbaum will chair refreshments for the Valentine Dance on February 12.
