Organize Community Guild Formed In Dalton High School

The Dalton Community Guild organized Thursday evening Jan. 25 in the high school auditorium with officers: Chairman Charles Hazel Co-chairman William Adams Secretary Mrs Carroll Scott Treasurer C M Jennings. An executive committee from various local groups selected the officers. Social events planned with membership cards required. Subscriptions and local notices noted, along with church and school activities and several local moves and community items. Groundhog Day mentioned. Ambulatory purchases for army aid noted. A wedding announcement and a child’s birthday observed among other community items.

March of Dimes Benefit Basketball Game Set

Dalton faces Orrville on the local floor Saturday night February 3 to raise funds. Sixty percent of the proceeds will be donated to the Infantile Paralysis fund.

John L. Rubner 83 died Tuesday night Jan 30 1945 at his daughter Mrs George Youngs North Mill Street home. Survived by another daughter Mrs Helen Cassidy of Denver Colorado and 10 grandchildren. Funeral Friday at 2 p.m. Stockham Funeral Home Dalton burial in Dalton Cemetery. Friends may call Steckhamen Gluced.

Charter Night for Salton Troop No 22 Held in Methodist Church

Eight Scouts attended a charter night in the Methodist church basement. Ira Berg opened with prayer and the Scout-oath. Stewart Riley presented registration cards to Scoutmaster Carl Edward Brown and assistant Donald Lautzenheiser and to Ira Berg, chairman of the Scout committee. Delmar Jones, Field Commissioner for the Massillon area, was introduced. Riley conducted the dedication and renewal of the Charter, which was passed to Brown. The Troop received a 100 percent pennant for subscriptions to Boy's Life.

The Department of Agriculture thermometer on the Dalton school grounds recorded the following temperatures for the 24 hour periods starting at 8 a.m. Readings show 8 a.m. start with a range of highs and lows for the day.

Red Cross reports sewing drive with 90 or more white tennis hood projects in progress. Call at Goudy's Furniture Store to join. Also note first allotment of 50 utility bags and 24 men's pajamas completed and sent back to Wooster Committee.

Funeral services for William J Williams were held Thursday Jan 25 at United Presbyterian Church. Born Aug 17 1871 in Mineral Ridge Ohio, he died Jan 23 1945 at Dalton after a lingering illness. Survived by wife Alma McDowell Williams three daughters Verda Mae Berg Hartville La Grace Foote Akron Lois Keck Orrville one son Aviation Cadet William Williams Jr V 5 USN R Pre-Flight Chapel Hill NC three grandchildren Michael Berg Everett John Foote and three brothers David Ambrose and John Williams Massillon. Burial at Dalton Cemetery. Out of town relatives attended from Massillon Youngstown Canton Hartville Akron and more others listed.
