Ohio Agricultural Institute plans include national leaders

Congressmen Thom and William R. Thom join National Grange Secretary Harry A. Caton to address the Ohio Institute on agriculture in Washington to Bricker announced speakers. Amish Quartet From Mistersburg will perform Friday night as the Junior Institute prepares two sessions for grades and a decorated high school auditorium features quilts exhibits and cake displays. Next week final institute announcements will appear in the Gazette.

Neighborhood gathering at Robert Stuck home

Last Wednesday evening a cheerful group of youngsters enjoyed games and music at the home of Robert Lee Stuck. Wiener and ham sandwiches potato chips and fruit salad were served.

Dalton FFA Apple and Potato Judging Teams Prep for State Contest

The Dalton High apple judging team led by David Lehman, Dale Miller, and Jay Buchwalter with Ward Hofstetter as alternate trains for the Ohio State University State Apple Judging Contest during Farmers Week on February 2. The Dalton group also enters the Potato Judging Contest with Carl Shisler, Stanley Tschantz, Dean McAfee, and Ford Berg, and will send delegates to the State F F A Convention.

Dalton High Tops Apple Creek 40 to 17 in Home Win

Dalton High defeated Apple Creek High 40 to 17 on their home floor last Friday evening. Wertz led Dalton with 13 points as the team faced little trouble. The junior varsity beat Apple Creek Reserves 19 to 6 in the preliminary game.

Mrs Ollie Saurer Divorced and Restored to Maiden Name

Mrs Ollie Saurer was granted a divorce from Raymond Saurer by Judge Mougey of the common pleas court after a Wednesday hearing. The decree restores her to her maiden name Ollie M. Bowers and approves a property rights settlement.

Howard Douglas Dies Suddenly at 63 in Local Incident

Howard Douglas 63 lifelong resident of this place died suddenly of heart failure Wednesday morning while warming himself at the school furnace room before heading to work. Survived by widow Demna, daughter Ethel, nine grandchildren, four brothers, one sister, and several sons. Funeral services Friday at home and U P church, with burial in Dalton cemetery. John C. The Optimistic Players stage The Valley of Ghosts by the Farmers Institute on Feb 10 at the high school auditorium. The play blends mystery and comedy with four Negro performers and a strong plot, promising one of Dalton’s best productions. Rural Route Changes Affect Several Carriers in Orrville Area

Postmaster J W Shisler announced March 1 Rural Route No 3 will be discontinued and absorbed by Routes 1 and 2. Rt 1 carrier Harry Stinson gains Kidron area. Rt 3 adds mileage to 46. Rt 2 carrier J C McAdams extends Mt Eaton area to Holmes County line, mileage 32 to 54. Frank Steiner shifts from Rt 3 to Rt 2 Orrville, pension for three nearby carriers. Burton City and adjoining territories added to Steiner. David J Hooley to Rt 1 Bowdil area as Rt 3 is absorbed.

AgedWoman Martha White dies at 90 near Dalton

Mrs Martha White age 90 died at 6 oclock Thursday night at her son Albert J Whites home one mile east of Dalton. She lived in Dalton all her life and is survived by sons Albert J and William of Chippewa Lake three brothers Atmos Stauffer Los Angeles Daniel Canton and Samuel Stauffer Goshen Indiana. Funeral services were held Sunday at 130 at the residence and 2 at Pleasant View church with Rev Ivan Buchwaite and Rev R G Pinkerton officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Murray and Stockham funeral directors.
