W. P. Slusser of Chaffin and Slusser suffered severe facial burns after a can of lard and gunpowder mixed on a Mill Street stove exploded. He was treated by Dr. Wenger, with eye injuries delaying assessment of vision. Recovery hopes are held.
William Gauweiler a Wooster motorman aged 35 was burned to death when an extra Cleveland and Southwestern Traction Line car collided with a south bound line car three miles north of Wooster in dense fog. Conductor Bert Boone of Wooster suffered a crushed leg. The wreck occurred as two cars collided and a fire quickly ignited. The fog and track conditions were blamed, marking a second fatality on the line in three days after a head on collision near Cleveland killed four and injured eighteen, two of the dead from Seville.
Mrs. John Ryan slipped on icy walks Friday morning and fractured her right wrist. She was taken to Massillon Sunday for an X ray examination.

Evangelistic meetings at the Presbyterian church begin with solid attendance and a favorable impression of the evangelists. Rev and Mrs Willis are praised for singing, and Mr Willis leads the song service effectively. The public is warmly invited to attend and bring friends.
Walter Le Roy Berg eight months old son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter S. Berg died Friday January 26 1917 after a brief illness. Funeral service was held in the Presbyterian church led by Rev. J. W. Findlay. Attending relatives from Akron Beach Grove East Greenville Apple Creek Marshallville Kidron included Emil Kurzen Walter Kurzen A J Kurzen Ed Kurzen John Smith Albert Berg Henry Berg and others.

Relatives in this place received word Monday evening of the sudden death of Mr. A. Buchanan of Chicago. He was about 59 and a former resident here. Survived by wife, one son, three daughters, and five brothers James Cleveland Daniel Massillon Peter William and Charles. William Buchanan left Tuesday for Chicago for the funeral.

County Auditor Charles Fahr finished Friday the tabulation of Wayne County personal tax returns. Total personal property assessed 10 676 87. utility and corporate valuations include railroads 16 160 351 electric 368 020 gas 1 607 090 electric light 84 780 telephone 497 670 telegraph 159 000 pipeline 1 564 219 other public utilities 8 040. Personal property makes up about half of the total duplicate 3 885 660. Also listed are local farm for rent and several sales notices including a Holstein cow with calf and a yearling heifer for sale along with miscellaneous wares and services.
A Box Social will be held at Silver Hill District No 2 Sugarcreek on Saturday night February 3. Ladies may bring boxes and gentlemen may come to bid. A short program including speeches songs and a play The Bachelor’s Baby will be presented. No admission charge. Everybody welcome.
