A Wheeling and Lake Erie freight train out of Toledo jumped the track west of Snively crossing south of Dalton Sunday afternoon. The 162 ton locomotive and 14 loaded cars plunged into a swamp, injuring fireman John Steine and leaving engineer Glenn Spencer safe. Crews from Brewster and Toledo cleared the line by Monday afternoon with traffic resumed 24 hours after the crash.
The post office will be open until 9 30 a m on Christmas Day with natural delivery. Mail dispatch continues until 9 30 a m. If needed, Saturday hours extend to 7 p m to 9 p m for the opening.
The Dalton junior class presents Wings of the Morning by Charles Quimby Burdette on Tuesday January 9 at 8 15 pm in the council room setting. Clyde Weckesser and Mrs. Nellie McPerry of Orrville were married in a single ring ceremony Tuesday at 1 p m. by Justice of the Peace Paul Stockham at his home.
Dent McDowell of Akron visited Sunday with Mrs. Ida Douglas. Mrs Violet Stuck from Akron visited Nettie and Ruth Rosier on Sunday. Mr and Mrs Miles Watson of Copley and Mr and Mrs John Smith with son from Fredericksburg dined with Mr and Mrs William Weaver on Wednesday. Russell Dague, Robert and William McFarren, James Johnson and Warren Shanklin attended a Massillon Christmas party for the Sons of Veterans and received blue jackets.
At the regular meeting the Community Club selected directors Supt. Ralph Hathaway Harry Gregory Carroll Scott Dr L L DeArment and C R Goudy. Officers will be chosen from these names. The Home Town Movies receipts totaled 40 to fund Christmas baskets for the needy. A committee of Hathaway Gregory Wyre will arrange distribution with Rotary and Firemen. George Leitner led a program with Attorney Robert Brenner of Wooster who spoke on tuberculosis and Christmas Seals. A movie Behind the Shadows was shown. Wallace Aker urged a Youth Movement in Dalton. A committee to meet the youth included W A Mumaw L L DeArment and C R McDowell. The M E church ladies served a chicken supper before the meeting.
Births announced including a granddaughter for Mr and Mrs D J Moser on December 12. Also a Massillon hospital birth for Mr and Mrs F J Ames a son. Norma Jean Wecht returns home from U S A for holidays. Dalton defeats Congress 38 to 20. holidays and travel notes follow.
The Union Young People's meeting is set for 6 45 p m Sunday at the U P church Mrs Wallace Aker leads a short devotional and caroling church programs follow with a youth gathering and caroling a light lunch will be served by the committee

The Presbyterian Sunday School plans its annual Christmas program Sunday at 8 00 p m featuring about forty cast members in The Star of Hope. The U P church hosts Christmas exercises Sunday at 7 45 p m. Grades 1 3 perform Friday at 1 pm and 4 6 in grade auditorium, with the high school program in the auditorium Friday afternoon.
At the close of the Sunday School session a Christmas program will be rendered by the children. All are invited to this service.
The Dalton Community Chorus led by Victor Gerber performed Handel’s The Messiah in the high school auditorium with over 60 voices. A string ensemble and community orchestra joined, delivering notable solos by Mrs Victor Gerber and Victor Amstutz and Christmas carols sung by the audience during the interlude.
