Costly Wreck South of Dalton

A Wheeling and Lake Erie freight train out of Toledo jumped the track west of Snively crossing south of Dalton Sunday afternoon. The 162 ton locomotive and 14 loaded cars plunged into a swamp, injuring fireman John Steine and leaving engineer Glenn Spencer safe. Crews from Brewster and Toledo cleared the line by Monday afternoon with traffic resumed 24 hours after the crash.

Community Club Elects Officers

At the regular meeting the Community Club selected directors Supt. Ralph Hathaway Harry Gregory Carroll Scott Dr L L DeArment and C R Goudy. Officers will be chosen from these names. The Home Town Movies receipts totaled 40 to fund Christmas baskets for the needy. A committee of Hathaway Gregory Wyre will arrange distribution with Rotary and Firemen. George Leitner led a program with Attorney Robert Brenner of Wooster who spoke on tuberculosis and Christmas Seals. A movie Behind the Shadows was shown. Wallace Aker urged a Youth Movement in Dalton. A committee to meet the youth included W A Mumaw L L DeArment and C R McDowell. The M E church ladies served a chicken supper before the meeting.

Christmas Programs At Local Churches This Week

The Presbyterian Sunday School plans its annual Christmas program Sunday at 8 00 p m featuring about forty cast members in The Star of Hope. The U P church hosts Christmas exercises Sunday at 7 45 p m. Grades 1 3 perform Friday at 1 pm and 4 6 in grade auditorium, with the high school program in the auditorium Friday afternoon.

Messiah Singers Shine In Dalton Community Christmas Concert

The Dalton Community Chorus led by Victor Gerber performed Handel’s The Messiah in the high school auditorium with over 60 voices. A string ensemble and community orchestra joined, delivering notable solos by Mrs Victor Gerber and Victor Amstutz and Christmas carols sung by the audience during the interlude.
