A large barn on the Felix Brown farm near Smithville burned down Monday night. Twenty four dairy cattle five horses and a pony perished. The blaze also ruined grain hay straw and farm equipment. Loss estimated at 15 000 to 20 000 with 5000 on the structure insured. no livestock coverage.
A Christmas colored kitchen shower was held at Miss Marie Tschantz's home Saturday night organized by Mildred Tschantz and Miss Goldie Springer. Prizes went to Miss Dorothea Lehman and Mrs Harold Johnson. Santa presented gifts and announced Marie's upcoming marriage to Harry Blosser.
Joe Hoobler was honored with a surprise 4th birthday party on Saturday from 2 to 5 pm. Hosted by his mother Mrs W F Hoobler, Miss Lois Pratt led the games and Christmas greens decorated the supper table where a cake extended ribbons holding gifts for each guest. Guests included Carol and Marilyn Scott Patsy Tschantz Dicky Gano and Franklin Stockham.
An evening of instrumental and vocal music at Pleasant Valley School House on Tuesday December 22 at 8 00 pm features two one act plays cake walks candies and popcorn. Proceeds fund a newly secured piano for the school. Miss Evangeline White the teacher notes a small admission fee.
News of Aaron Dale 86 of Indiana reached us as the body was moved Tuesday to his sister Mrs. Moore at 430 Fair Ave NW New Philadelphia. Funeral services slated for Thursday at 2 pm with Rev Mr Bair officiating. Interment in Newman Creek chapel cemetery. C L Arnold Inc Massillon Funeral Directors.

Dalton high school beat Marshallville 45 to 31 as the varsity posted an early lead and held on. Dalton reserves won 40 to 13 and the Parsons beat Marshallville Independents 29 to 17 with Stahl scoring 10. Saturday Rittman defeated Dalton 38 to 24 and the Parsons lost 25 to 22.
Frenchburg School Wildcats travel to Dalton for an evening basketball game with the Rittman Shamrocks at the high school auditorium. The Kentucky school serves mountain communities and is led by Merle H McDowell, farm manager and longtime instructor, with a history of past superintendent Dr H. Ray Shear.
The ladies of the U. P. church hold their annual pastry sale and bazaar on Saturday December 19 at Lawrence's Paint Shop with proceeds for church projects.
Members of the Girls Club of Home Economics led by Miss Pick ens enjoyed a Wednesday evening party at the high school. Thirty two attendees shared a spaghetti supper. The group met at 1 p m Wednesday for a meeting, with lessons on The History of Home Economics by Evelyn Buchwalter and The Etiquette of Getting a Job discussed by Arline Kline.
