Powder Explosion Wrecks McDowell’s Hardware Store
A fatal powder explosion at McDowell’s Hardware in Dalton injured William Ressler fatally and seriously hurt Amos Moser. The blast shattered windows and threw debris across the street. Ressler died within thirty hours at Mt Airy hospital Massillon as doctors offered no hope. The fire department responded as smoke filled the store room.

Dalton Volunteer Fire Festival at Town Hall Lawn
Dalton Ohio hosts a festival on Saturday August 1 1907 on the town hall lawn with ice cream cake watermelon lemonade and other treats. Proceeds benefit the Dalton Volunteer Fire Department and music is by the Lith Regiment Band.

Ressler Dies in Explosion at Dalton Hardware
William O Ressler, manager of M F McDowell hardware, died when a powder explosion last Thursday tore through the shop. Born May 5 1882 in Stark county near Sippo, he lived in Wayne county 18 years and married Nannie Miller in 1906. He was a 7 year hardware employee and 3 years in management. The town mourns a favorite, as wife and baby endure loss, with a funeral at the Presbyterian church attended by over 1500.

Soldier Benjamin Wells Ends Life in Ohio Home
Benjamin Wells of Burton City Ohio died July 31 1907 at age 82 after taking paris green. Born August 15 1824 in Lyden Lancaster Co Pa he married Elizabeth A Baler in 1850 and had five children. He served in the 120th Ohio Volunteer Infantry from Aug 1862 to Nov 1863 including battles at Chickasaw Bayou Arkansas Post Thompson Hill Big Black River Vicksburg and more. His two wives died previously leaving him with survivors including one son and two daughters.
