Erection of a community house and Boy Scout headquarters began with a prefabricated structure arriving by flat car. Plans call for an 18 by 24 foot building with basement south of the shelter house, to be used by 18 active scouts under Scoutmaster Albert Stanley.
Work began Monday on a seven row bleacher section sixty feet long at the Dalton Memorial Softball Field. Amos Nussbaum and Al Martin lead crews. more help needed to finish. The Softball Association plans annual expansion to boost seating and host Memorial League with six teams aiming for eight.
The American Weekly Chicago Herald American presents guidance for parents on nurturing gifted children. At a Community Club dinner twenty five attendees heard S L Brickley explain Massillon division Ohio Bell Telephone Co rates and free service plans. The Club plans a May banquet for the School Boy Patrol.
Dalton Post 5534 VFW installed officers Tuesday led by Post Commander Carl Lustig. Elected commander Clarence Kraus senior vice commander Merle Berg junior vice commander Olan Sandwith and others filled roles. Ken Yeaman showed Army Recruiting Service films.
The Ladies Auxiliary to Dalton Post V F W re elected Mrs Florida Yeoman as President and announced officers including Sr V Pres Mrs Jean Kraus Jr V Pres Mrs Anna Weikert Treas Mrs Esther Dearolf Chaplain Mrs Geneva Gardner Conductress Mrs Myrtle Wilson Guard Mrs Helen Marty Trustee Mrs Jennie Kraus. The installation is set for May 13 and public admission is planned. Helen Berg was named ticket chairman for the Ohio Encampment in Cincinnati on July 11, 1948.

Dalton High School music students excelled in Columbus with top ratings. Tom McFarren and Nancy Warnock earned first in piano solo, the girls vocal trio of Warnock Graber and Steiner won first, and Coffman Crumley Amstutz placed second in trumpet trio. The woodwind quintet and Coffman trumpet solo earned second, while Sommer moved from Class C marimba to Class A and secured first.
The Dalton High School Band will present a program on Thursday evening, April 15 at 8 oclock in the high school auditorium. Feature is Poet and Peasant Overture by Von Suppe with Sousa selections. Solo and small ensemble performances include two trumpet solos, trumpet trio, sax trio, french horn solo, and a clarinet solo. Admission is 25 cents. The High School Orchestra and Choruses will perform at a later date.

East Union Lutheran Church sponsors a big bazaar at Griffen Electric Shop Wooster Walnut street entrance. Items include country baked goods aprons needlework hand painted and handmade articles. Proceeds support church activities.
F F A boys plan a paper drive in Dalton on Friday morning April 23. Place papers on the porch and they will tie them if needed.
Mr and Mrs Kenneth Yeaman of Culligan Soft Water Service Dalton depart Thursday for a two day convention of Culligan Soft Water Service Operators from the area in Columbus April 16 and 17. The event marks the 10th anniversary of the first Culligan service, a growth from one town to over 800 independent firms serving more than 2 000 towns nationwide. Yeaman expects announcements on new water conditioning services for the community.
William Albert Neiss, a longtime farmer in the Dalton area for 37 years, died Sunday night at his home from a heart ailment after six months of illness. He was born in Holmes county and leaves his wife, three sons Harry of Fresno, John and Arthur of West Lebanon, Earl at home, a stepson Edward Smith of Dalton RD, three daughters Mrs Walter Keg Ron of Brewster, Mrs Theodore Keller at home, and Mrs Russell Dague of Dalton, plus 21 grandchildren. He belonged to Christ Evangelical and Reformed Church at Orrville. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 10:30 am at the DesVoignes funeral home in Mt. Eaton, Rev E. W. Spence officiating. Burial followed at Crown Hill cemetery in Orrville.
Mrs. William C. Marable and Mrs. Winnie M. Marable aged 49 formerly of Woodland Inn near Dalton died Saturday at her Canton Massillon road residence. She leaves a husband and son Wm C Marable Jr. Funeral services were held Monday with burial at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
A daughter was born Sunday to Mr and Mrs Albert E Nickles of RD 2 Dalton at Massillon City Hospital. A son was born Thursday morning to Mr and Mrs Orin C Shoup of RD1 Dalton at Massillon City Hospital.
