Gov Mellette worked to complete certificates for constitution adoption of the Dakotas and letters will go by mail tonight. President may issue his proclamation soon after receiving official notices from territorial governors, with a delay possible to the 22nd or later.
Storx Falls Press reports a gas well struck at 182 feet three miles from Salem. The flow is steady the flame clear and bright with no drop in pressure. Report suggests gas will be found elsewhere in the state and may soon illuminate many localities.
James Severson, in a drunken spree, attacked Knut Westrum at Seversons home, smashing furniture over his head. Westrum lay unconscious on the floor. Severson is jailed awaiting word on Westrum’s head wounds. The piece notes Severson’s usual gentleness when sober.

The Milbank Advance blames Moody and Pettigrew for corrupt influences in the U S senate election. The paper loves the Republican Party but fears the consequences of these men. It hopes the misgivings prove ill founded but doubts the truth of the prediction. The piece ends with praise for John Christopher and reports on a deep artesian well by Robens, 658 feet deep with abundant good water.
Sioux Falls Press reports North Dakota seeks rapid irrigation progress. President appoints James Elton as Grand Forks land office register. General Green B. Ranam installed as pension commissioner.
Rev. Wm. Fielder has been chosen president of the South Dakota Prohibition Enforcement League and will move to Huron to conduct his duties. The News celebrates the leadership and expresses regret that he must leave the city, with Aberdeen residents recalling him fondly.
Iowa amateur runner O A Dodson closes a record season after winning over twenty races and setting amateur records.
