The House approved the Tucker bill repealing the federal elections law by a party line vote of 200 to 101 with Populists aiding Democrats. Amendments by Burrows and Lacey were rejected. In the Senate, discussion focused on executive session and the silver purchase repeal amid debate over the Geary and Sherman laws.
Washington reports say a compromise on the silver bill is near. If unconditional repeal fails, the president may back a plan aligned with the Blackburn amendment that avoids bonds while preserving parity by seignorage on gold and gold deposits in the treasury. Most expect the long session to last about 48 more hours.

Providence Oct 11 a large strike hits Olneyville woollen mills with about 6000 workers out and more plants at risk of closing. Unrest began after a wage cut notice and labor agitators urged action. In Altoona Portage Iron workers near Duncanville faced 23 to 38 percent cuts and quit to defend Pittsburg wage standards.
