Prince Henry of Prussia Receives Chicago Welcome

March 5 Chicago witnessed Prince Henry of Prussia with Governor Van Sant in a busy day. He laid a wreath at the Lincoln monument, attended a Germania Club luncheon, and received a vase for Princess Irene. Attendees included Mayor Harrison, Rear Admiral Evans, Robert Lincoln, and German officials amid a guarded, festive crowd.

Slavery in the Philippines discussed by Governor Taft

Governor Taft testified before the house insular committee about slavery in the Philippines noting it was confined to the Southern Moro islands. Bill to repeal charter of Northern Securities Company

Senator Gebhardt of Hunterdon introduced a senate bill to repeal and dissolve the Northern Securities company in New Jersey. Building Portion Collapses in Philadelphia

A section of a new addition to the Fidelity Trust building at 323 Chestnut Street collapsed in the morning, killing two workers and seriously injuring two more. Rescue teams responded, and investigators began work at the scene.

House approves Philippine tariff report in close vote

Washington March 5 The House adopted the conference report on the Philippine tariff bill by 138 to 109 after Rep Republicans McCall Heatwole and Littlefield sided with Democrats against the report. The debate then shifted to the rural free delivery contract system with arguments for and against its passage.

Ship Subsidy Bill Debated in Senate Morning Session
