J. W. Stapf city treasurer of South St. Paul was arrested on a mayor sworn warrant charging shortage in his accounts. Officials say the deficit runs about 11500 dollars. Stapf told reporters he lost the funds in ill advised livestock investments and a failed manufacturing venture.
In Fargo on June 25 the town reports 15 blind pigs operating during the tournament. Major Edwards has criticized violators of the law in The Forum over recent issues. Tin horns and saloonmen threaten to organize against him, citing the mayoral prohibition vote. The Forum editor is described as a heavyweight likely to resist efforts to remove him.
Grand Forks N D June 25 The auditor of the Great Northern has nearly completed examination of the books of missing cashier D S Stewart who disappeared recently and the shortage is over $3000. The defalcations cover several years and the whereabouts of Stewart remain unknown.
John McHale the night policeman in Hiesing Minnesota was badly cut about face and neck by four drunken Finlanders at 1 a m. Three attackers are in custody and a posse pursues the fourth. Fifteen shots were fired by the assailants and none by the officer. Citizens warn they may rough handle the fugitive if captured.
A report to the governor states 700 people were destitute in Frontier and Parkins counties. W. N. Nason of Omaha, from the state relief commission, says he found no serious destitution after an investigative trip. Crops look fine and harvest prospects are hopeful.
Walter C. Sanger of the Spalding team faces suspension by L A W racing board chief George D. Gideon as investigations into his amateur standing proceed. The charge alleges he sold his prizes.
President Diaz of Mexico issued a decree on June 4 cutting internal letter postage from 10 to 5 cents and local letters from 5 to 4 cents. The measure does not alter postage for letters mailed from the United States.

The Colima wreck is attributed to wind and possibly a hull leak. Consul Battle at Acapulco reports the account dated June 8, with statements from Mr. Chilberg and three other passengers and two seamen corroborating the wind as the cause.

Parliament adjournment may delay official announcement until after the seal fisheries bill passage.

William Mobley aged 77 a locomotive engineer for 55 years and the Northwestern Railway's longest serving member died in Lake Geneva Wisconsin on June 26. His death closes a half century of service covering many eras of railroad history. He began as a brakeman and rose through the ranks maintaining a record of steady work and reliability. Mobley leaves a memory of dedication to the railroad and to the communities he served along his routes.
Pittsburgh on June 26 reports Anton Metzger, an alleged anarchist from Allegheny, died by self-inflicted blast after placing a bomb in his ear. The event highlights the era’s anarchist tension and lone actor incidents.
