Edith Johnson, a waitress, was fatally burned after grabbing live wires on the roof of the New Wright House in Cleveland. Thomas Bell, a World worker, helped free her but was injured when a live wire wrapped around his hips caused a fatal fall. Bell survived his burns.
A masked man robbed the mail car on train No 4 International and Great Northern near Palestine Texas after leaving Tucker. He demanded safe keys then the registered mail keys and forced clerk Orrin Davis to jump from the car injuring him. Eight registered packages are reported stolen.
St Louis heiress May Belle Chrichfield, 15, daughter of Mrs. Mary J. Chrichfield, has been missing from her home since Wednesday afternoon. Fears arise she is held for ransom or to gain access to her property.
American delegates to the World's W C T U convention were met at Waterloo station by Lady Henry Somerset, president of the British W C T U, Miss Frances Willard, president of the World's W C T U, and other union representatives.

In Winnipeg on June 19 the Manitoba legislature opened debate on the Ottawa remedial order for separate schools. Premier Greenway argued for a measured discussion outside a political campaign, while Attorney General Siffon pressed that Manitoba need not comply yet maintain an efficient school system. The exchange drew a large audience and sharp, though civil, replies from opposition member Mr. Armstrong.
Mason City Iowa reports the formal launch of William B Allison for president at the Republican leagues national convention in Cleveland next Wednesday through Friday. Iowa leaders including J S Clarkson coordinate the delegation with A B Cummins to speak, and Robert T Lincoln floated as running mate. the state band and Hollenden Hotel serve as headquarters.
A second decree from Rome orders Catholic dioceses to publish the decree banishing Catholics from the Knights of Pythias. It notes many bishops have acted but some have not and directs archbishops and bishops to promulgate the ruling without delay.

The Farmers' Loan and Trust company files to place Chicago and Northern Pacific railroad property under receiver A T Hopkins. Property includes depot main track and southern limit lines in Cubanco. A $30 million mortgage backs bonds. Wisconsin Central leases the line for $350k plus interest and stockholder payments. Wisconsin Central sublets to Baltimore and Ohio and Chicago Great Western for $150k rent each. Foreclosure of the mortgage is underway.
Providence June 19 The strike leaders in Olneyville are losing influence as the last holdouts at Atlantic and Fletcher plants return. Atlantic reports a thousand workers back and 800 looms in operation. Fletcher mills add 20 weavers and former operatives are reclaiming their old positions.
A June storm drenched Kansas City with nearly four inches of rain in eight hours, the heaviest total in 15 years. At the storm’s peak two inches fell in 28 minutes, the greatest short-term downpour on record.
In Lisson on June 19 the chamber of deputies burned when a plumber sparked flames on the roof at 1 o clock. The fire reached the chamber of peers but only the deputies chamber and archives were destroyed. Four people sustained injuries in the blaze.
Warrants issued for the arrest of every saloonkeeper in Sioux Falls by a labor union official. They will be brought to police court, plead guilty, and the mayor will remit the fines.
Louisville June 19 Reports from 65 counties show 54 yet to hear. Harding leads with 182 instructed votes. Clay has 152 instructed and 211 uninstructed in favor of sound money. 160 for free silver, 105 uninstructed, 275.
David Burke, jailed for shaving coins, will plead guilty in U S court in San Francisco. His wife Mrs Burke who was arrested with him will be arraigned. The case stems from an arrest a year ago by Secret Agent Harris.
Murcomettt, S. D., June 19. Taylor arrives on the afternoon East train with Berry Sullivan. He looks tired and nervous and shakes hands with Dakota acquaintances. He says he has not been in Brazil but a Northern city, likely Monterey, and that detectives have not been on his trail. He remarks Dakota is dry and he is glad to be back, and he seeks to avoid publicity.
South Dakota officials say rumors of a compromise with ex-treasurer W W Taylor are false. Governor Sheldon and State Treasurer Phillips promise full restitution and that the state will not lose funds, with sufficient property turned over by Taylor and his bondsmen to cover defalcation.
A cyclone struck Hartford Kansas around 5 p m sweeping through with a clear path about 100 feet wide. Several people were badly injured with nonfatal casualties reported. about 12 houses and many barns were destroyed. Estimated total losses range from 10000 to 20000 dollars.
A special to The Bee from Butte Nebraska reports jury selection in the Barrett Scott lynching case neared completion at noon. Defense lawyers moved to discharge the prisoners claiming double jeopardy and the court recessed to consider the motion.
J. H. Davis of Rochester New York was arraigned in police court on two charges of passing fictitious checks. The preliminary examination was set for Wednesday. Davis was represented by an attorney. It is reported that Davis father in law W. W. Craig a Rochester lumberman is en route to the city.
In Grand Forks June 19 the libel case of ex-priest J. G. Perault versus Bishop Shanley for 25000 dollars ends with Judge Templeton directing the jury to find for the defendant the bishop over a letter sent to Perault during his tenure at Lari more.
Jackson J Lukens Elias B Saylors and James D Starbuck commissioners of Wabash County Indiana were arrested on grand jury warrants. Nineteen indictments allege misuse of public funds and illegal allowances with nine felonies and misdemeanors.
The National Malleable Casting company informed 900 workers of an immediate 10 percent pay raise. At Eberhard Manufacturing large plant, 1,000 employees were notified of a 10 percent increase.
In June 15 report from Chamberlain D D May, settlers along a boundary line 60 near Gregory county find their farms on land still belonging to the Rosebud Indians. The land was ceded from Sioux control in 1890 but the line runs east of expectations, leaving 60 squatters facing possible removal after crops are harvested while awaiting government action.
In Washington on June 15 Secretary Hoke Smith reversed a land office ruling in favor of J. A. Wells of Nebraska granting an extension for final payment on a pre-emption claim. The decision cites a recent act of Congress extending payment time by one year when the entryman cannot pay due to uncontrollable causes amid nationwide financial distress.
Testimony opens before the house in the Belknap contest of McGann for Illinois Third District. Witnesses accuse election officials of disgraceful conduct as Belknap seeks to overturn the narrow Democratic victory that seated McGann.
The Olympia steam ship, after the naval reserve’s annual cruise, is described as topheavy with officers and men fearing her. reports say she rolled badly en route to Santa Cruz, showing instability and ominous top heaviness that could spell disaster in heavy seas.
Albany June 19 trustees of the Perry Stove company filed in the supreme court for voluntary liquidation. Judge Foreman appointed General Zelden E. Marvin as receiver after stockholders at their annual meeting decided to cease operating on the current basis.
Merritts’ attorneys contest the American Steel Barge Co. effort to garnish at Cleveland in the Rockefeller verdict for 940000. They say the Merritts owe nothing to the barge firm while the firm owes the Merritts over 160000.
In Rice Lake Wisconsin on June 19 Mrs Shervey an elderly resident was fatally hurt after being thrown from a carriage she hid in Mrs Ida Laforge and Miss Ida Crow were seriously injured by the runaway horses near the high school in the same incident.
W. W. Taylor, former South Dakota state treasurer, did not appear for interviews at the Palmer House in Chicago. He traveled to Pierre to surrender, while associates say he avoids reporters and used an assumed name during his stay. Attorney General Crawford and attorney D. K. Tenny discussed terms of his return.
Democrats in Kentucky held a precinct mass meeting in Louisville and chose delegates to county conventions. Many delegates are uninstructed, with sound money forces strong. Jefferson county delegates favor Clay for governor and sound money, while many sound money delegates back Hardin. Both Clay and Hardin are satisfied with the outlook, but county conventions must decide before state plans emerge.
Sioux City reports an Indian scare as about 100 Winnebagoes from Nebraska camp in the east part of the city to sell gooseberries. They drink heavily, creating danger near their tents. police order them to leave but will not act with force due to their numbers.
A foot passenger section of the old Chicago and West Michigan bridge gave way as a crowd gathered on the east end. About 15 to 20 people were dumped onto the rocks roughly 15 feet below. No fatalities, but several were injured.
Oscar Rhea, a Raymond township farmer, died after a bowel operation at Dr. Thor Moeller’s hospital. His sister says Dr. Carpenter should have been called for the procedure and seeks an inquest into the death.
D S Stewart cashier of the Great Northern freight office in Grand Forks is missing after buying a $300 bank draft in St Paul. He was well liked and had an excellent reputation in the city.
In Indianapolis on June 18 a 9 year old boy, son of Hugo Miller, secretary of the International Typographical Union, was accidentally shot and killed during a target practice by picnickers. The death is ruled accidental.
