Freberg Bound Over In False Pretenses Case
A. C. Freberg, farm hand from the east county, was bound over to the next term of the circuit court on charges of obtaining money under false pretenses. He claimed ownership of hogs, sold imaginary pigs in Huron, received payment by check, and bought a railroad ticket east. Sheriff Kerr captured him east of Brookings and brought him back to Huron. Justice Brockway heard the case with States Attorney Simmons and C. A. Kelley for the defense. State witnesses included Jas Tomlinson and E. F. Burdeck plus Mrs. Burdeck. Freberg did not own the hogs and the Tomlinson check was obtained under false pretenses. He is held to await the circuit court with a $1000 bond, which was approved.
