Parker 8S D June 3. A dispute over a quarter section of land south of town between J A Hand and Gus Gilbert ends with Gilbert winning and receiving patent from the land office. The case spanned 14 years in Washington with Hand occupying and improving the land before surrendering possession.
A Boston dispatch to The Union reports a match race being arranged between J. S. Johnson and Zimmerman. Preliminary talks occurred at the Waltham meet and negotiations show strong promise of success, with potential to be the largest wheeling event in history.
In Hinckley Minnesota on June 3 William Fitzsimmons fatally stabbed Joe Vigue after a drinking quarrel. Vigue died almost instantly and Fitzsimmons was arrested and jailed.
London June 4 The Berlin correspondent says the Prussian government is negotiating to decide if Germany should exclude Austro Hungarian swine due to disease outbreaks at Steinbruch.
News reports from New York Chicago Philadelphia Detroit Louisville and Battleboro on June 5 describe extreme heat with temperatures around 96 to 100 degrees. At least 25 deaths and many prostrations are noted across cities, with officials warning continued heat risk.
The June rainstorm drenches Southern and Western Kansas with six inches in places. Flooded draws, lakes in low areas, and soil saturation exceed five years. Washouts disrupt Salina Union Pacific branch, plus a mainline near Greenfield. More rain reaches Hen nessy I T and toward Colorado. Wheat benefits, corn robust, chinch bugs worsened then checked by wet weather.
Denver reports Jerome Park suburb threatened as the Platte River rises toward Rio Grande Avenue. Flood waters advance at about one inch per hour, prompting railway crews to stay ready with work trains awaiting orders. The Rio Grande line remains the only one with on time service.
Within 36 hours four and a half inches of rain fell over the Pierre region. The Missouri River is rising rapidly and a water spout was sighted by ranchman T. E. Phillips from 40 miles west. Much young stock was killed and other damage occurred.
The chamber adopted a motion censuring the government by 78 votes as ministers quit the house before the division. The cabinet refuses to resign claiming Sagasta promised opposition support for the budget. Republicans appear determined to overthrow the government.
Intelligence reports from Shanghai on June 5 describe rioters destroying French Catholic and English and American missionary property in Chin Too, capital of Szechuan province, between May 29 and May 31. Missionaries are said to be safe in the official yamens.
A June 5 dispatch reports wide scale forest fires from Russe City to Bradford threatening oil rigs and rail lines. Fires advance with a west wind, endangering Russell City and several towns in McKean, Elk, and surrounding counties, with millions of dollars in expected losses.
J B Greenhut and C T Lindsay sue in chancery at Proria Illinois alleging the reorganization committee diverted property by private sale to a related company and seek public sale or a receivership if US court lacks jurisdiction. They claim the stock is held by New York gamblers and accuse efforts to freeze out other stockholders.
A tidal wave on Peru's northern Pacific coast June 5 breaks the Callao Arica cable and causes heavy damage at Mollendo, a cable station and railway terminus to Arequipa and Pand. Other seaports report significant destruction to facilities and infrastructure.
A June 5 letter to the National League headquarters from H. L. Wells, secretary of the Young Men's State Republican club of Oregon, states that Oregon delegates will oppose any move at the Cleveland meeting to commit the gathering to support free coinage of silver at 16 to 1 by the United States independently.
Providence R I June 5 The Olneyville mills reopened at the regular hour for workers who wished to return but only a small percentage of the normal force came back. Manufacturers plan to keep vacancies for strikers for a short time and will hire available operatives if former employees stay away.
Chairman Caldwell of the Western Lines Passenger association calls a Wednesday meeting to form a local group like those in St. Louis and Kansas City. A St Paul Minneapolis chapter is also likely to be formed on Friday.
Rt Rev Bishop Rupert Seidenbusch of Minnesota died at St Mary's Benedictine priory after Mass at St Mary's church. He grew weak and required assistance to the priest's residence. Death attributed to apoplexy brought on by extreme heat while he was visiting Richmond, Virginia.
The Nicollet avenue killings of Mrs. Martha Elias and her daughter Annie M. Elias remain unsolved. Both were found dead in bed with a gunshot wound, and no clear motive or circumstance emerges to explain the deaths.
In Portland Judge Gilbert signed orders appointing John M. Egan as receiver of the Oregon Short Line and Utah Northern railway. The court also approved issuing receivers' certificates totaling 750000 dollars.
Springfield dispatch reports General Bushnell in an AP interview stating he endorses McKinley for president in 1896. He affirms support if McKinley is Ohio’s candidate, and he believes he will be.
The Chilian government resumes specie payments with a 41 to 1 gold to silver ratio. The move follows a trial issue and aims to curb exports of coinage as gold and silver flow out. Mints halted further coinage as observers await results.

Investigations into the dead woman's business dealings reveal motives for murder but little actionable evidence. Ex Senator Buck was injured in a carriage accident en route to the police chief's office. his friendship with Harrington raised hopes he could identify the killer, though he is now unconscious with improving condition.
The War Department approved the Interior Department request to supply rifles for arming the Winnebago Indian police in Nebraska amid past troubles at the reservation.
The attorney general ruled that bidders for government work cannot withdraw bids by claiming a mistake. Wasa Hineton, June 5. The decision holds firm against bid withdrawal requests based on alleged errors.
News from Hone Kone reports Japanese forces seized Kee Tung in northern Formosa. About 300 Chinese were killed in the action, details forthcoming.
Rome deposed Archbishop Kendrick and named Rev. John J. Kain as his replacement. A cablegram signed by Cardinal Prefect Ledochowski announced the May 21 decision during services at the cathedral. The action retires Kendrick from archdiocesan rights and provides a potential annuity plan for him.
In Washington on June 5 Mgr Satolli the papal delegate declined interviews on Archbishop Kendrick's deposition refusing to deny or confirm the report.
June 5 report says seven members of the Buchwold family were taken into custody in Cleveland for insanity. Henry and Charlotte Buchwold, their two daughters Eva and Emma, and three young children were confined at 3 Heaver Street after a week of ritually wild seances. A daughter claimed to be a spirit and another believed the spirit must die. officials intervened before any sacrifice occurred.
Paving and Municipal Engineering reports city engineers in 300 cities with populations over ten thousand expect more public work this summer of 1895 than ever before. Expenditures for paving sewerage water works and bridges are projected near 200 million dollars, compared with under a quarter of that in the previous year.
Chicago June 5. Secretary Gresham had not drawn his $80 monthly pension for three years. He never surrendered it and did not request it. An accumulation exceeding $1,100 is in his credit. The pension was granted for wounds at the battle of Atlanta. By department law the accumulation may be ordered by his wife, and the pension of $30 a month will go to her.
The Milwaukee railroad company won a decisive verdict of not guilty in Judge Seaman's court, dismissing the Pullman Palace Car company action. The jury upheld the railroad’s right to annul the old contract with the Pullman firm, ending the dispute.
P J Brophy a prominent groceryman sues ex mayor E O Dugan in district court to recover 1089 dollars alleged to be collected and misused while Dugan served as bookkeeper and manager from January 1890 to December 1892. Dugan left office three weeks prior.
Justice Ingraham names John S Waterbury and William E Strong receivers of the National Cordage company with a 100000 dollar bond. A circular from a protective committee urges immediate cash from new first mortgage bonds to fund operations and cover underlying loans. In Cincinnati Judge Taft assigns Waterbury as receiver for the Cordage company’s property in that district.
The Supreme Court announced two decisions. In Hilton v Guyot, the court reversed a lower court ruling on foreign judgments and remanded for trial in the Southern District of New York circuit court. In United States v Burr Wick, the court held the tariff law took effect August 28, 1894, not August 1, 1894, a ruling celebrated by the government as highly important and expedited.
In CuhaTanooga Tennessee on June 5 the circuit court found the indictment against M. J. O'Brien fatally defective and quashed. The $15,000 bond was reduced to $5,000 to hold him until the next term, pending grand jury action, seen as practical abandonment of the case.
