Insane Architecture Crumbles at Asylum Wing
At the insane asylum yesterday afternoon about forty feet of brick cornice fell to the ground. A young son of the late Jacob Lee, a victim of the October accident, narrowly escaped being struck. No injuries occurred as the falling cornice hit outside the structure. The projecting wing likely was laid during freezing weather and the day’s weather was unusual.

Fine Weather Spurs Fall Plowing and Grain Trade in Wessington
Special to the Huronite from Wessington on December 22 reports fine weather and good roads boosting farming activity. Wheat and corn loads arrive from 25 to 30 miles away as cattle graze, warehouses buy large grain quantities, and coal prices drop unusually low. A stock train shipments to Chicago and plans to ship more carloads follow. Local items include a turkey and chicken consignment to California and a banker’s elegant cottage under construction. The piece notes marriages of Jas K Kirkpatrick and George Kirkpatrick to Miss Harmon and Miss Ballentine, with others reportedly courting matrimony. The Brookings Press cites views on Dakota statehood, urging action with Congress for division and statehood.
