Washington December 19 The senate passed a 100000 public printing appropriation to prevent stoppage. Senator Gallinger reported a resolution inviting the annexation of Canada claiming a union with the United States is inevitable and urging referral to the foreign relations committee.
Eugene V. Debs and fellow American Railway union leaders will surrender to Cook County jail next Monday to serve their sentences. They rejected appeals as useless and too costly, deciding this step without their lawyers. Debs cited likely failure of an appeal and the burden of expense.
The American Federation of Labor convention in Denver voted to oppose compulsory arbitration in a Cigarmakers union resolution and tabled Boston clothing workers’ resolutions. John Gillen, hotel owner at Bryant, Antigo County, was arrested by Deputy U S Marshal Buckley on a charge of selling whisky to Indians. Gillen was bound over to the U S circuit court after appearance by United States District Attorney Wigman.

The supposed Ute invasion turns out to be a regular chance with no alarm. The scare is linked to cowboys seeking grass and Utah officials seeking solid political fences for statehood.

In Kansas City a wave of outlawry unfolded with the shooting death of ex Deputy Constable Isaac Kahn by Foster Pollard at a saloon on Troop Avenue. Five holdups on Independence Avenue near Highland and two on Bluff Street netted about $55. Robbers declared their aim was livelihood and targeted wealthier residents.

The Idaho supreme court upholds the lower court verdict sentencing Charles Perry to be hanged for the June murder of Patrick McNamara at Lava. This marks Idaho’s first execution in many years.

At Dry Hollow Cassville a mother, Mrs. William Jones, during a fit of despondency cut the throats of her 5 and 7 year old children with a razor, then killed herself with the same method. Mr. Jones was away at Washburn when the tragedy occurred.
United States Coast Survey steamers Gedney and McArthur will start a new survey of the San Francisco harbor entrance in early January. The Golden Gate has not been surveyed in 22 years. Captains of several vessels that struck the bar report new shoals forming in the roadway.

Thomas N Williams Jr filed the petition in San Francisco alleging mismanagement and neglect of common necessities.
A divorce was granted to Mrs Gertrude Hutchins Clarke from Clarence W Clarke the New York adventurer now jailed in Denver. They married after two days acquaintance.
