The story details a fatal shooting at a California depot where U. S. Marshal Eagle killed Judge Terry after an altercation with Justice Field. It also covers a Des Moines political convention, a Chicago arrest for illegal sale of alcohol, irrigation senate hearings, and a Dakota marriage land dispute. The mixed items reflect a sensational mix of crime politics and local notices from Aug. 14–15.
