Uniform qualifications for voting in Congress debated in Senate

The senate committee on privileges and elections voted to amend the house resolution to elect senators by direct vote of the people. The Depew amendment would make voter qualifications uniform across states. Penrose amendment on apportionment was defeated. The next vote is set for the committee’s next meeting.

Richardson Objects Delay Cuban Reciprocity Debate

In Washington on April 16, Mr Payne urged closing general debate on Thursday with night sessions, but the plan was rejected by Mr Richardson who demanded regular order. Helena Mont April 16 The Anaconda Copper Mining company of Butte won a major victory in the Montana supreme court over F Augustus Heinze. The court annulled the December order of survey that allowed Heinze to send surveyors into the Anaconda and St Lawrence mines. Heinze claimed veins from his Fairmount claim extended into the Anaconda workings.
