Governor O Conor spoke to the Frederick Rotary Club outlining postwar aims. He urged federal tax policy review and peacetime removal of wartime business controls. He pressed for firm action against Germany and Japan and warned leniency is inappropriate. Philip Murray pleaded to the War Labor Board to scrap the Little Steel formula for a 17 cent raise and annual wage guarantees for mill workers.

Elwood Garling aged 15 was recaptured at his Chestnut street home after deputies and Sheriff Huyett pursued him following his escape from the county jail office while a warrant charging contributing to the delinquency of a minor girl was being read. Earlier Tuesday he received a suspended sentence after pleading guilty to gaso larceny.
