Legion Calls for Armed Neutrality at Convention
The American Legion, meeting in Chicago, urged a well armed neutrality and urged Congress to stay in session to preserve peace and sovereignty. It backed expanding armed forces to deter invasions, including a 1,000,000-strong capable military, a second to none navy, larger regular army and National Guard, and increased funding for equipment and training.
