Baltimore dispatch reports Maryland will send about 400 delegates to the American Legion national convention in Boston. The group sails by special trains from Cumberland October 5, joining posts along the way, with events October 6 to 9. Participating units include drum and bugle corps from Frostburg Cumberland Havre de Grace and Baltimore led by state commander George Henderson and national committee member Asa Needham.

A religious festival in Meriden Connecticut ended in a pitched battle when a group from a women's church organization tried to remove a statue of the Virgin Mary for a parade to solicit funds. Police arrested three women after officers struggled to reclaim the statue from the church vestibule.

A queer animal shown at Petland North Potomac Street was identified as a night crown monkey by Henry Bartels of New York, with several in stock there. The creature, about mouse to rat size, brown fur large ears long tail and opossum like face, slept by day and roamed by night. It was found in banana bunches by a Chambersburg grocer's clerk and brought to the pet shop.
Edward Brown and Ben Turner, Baltimore men, were fined $10 and costs by Magistrate Duffey in City Court after a fight at the entrance to a Chinese restaurant on South Potomac Street Saturday night. Patrolmen Desmond and Baughman arrested them for breaking a large plate glass in a door and ordered them to pay for it.
Twenty valuable chickens were stolen from the Guessford farm on Leitersburg pike. Mrs John Male has returned to her Baltimore home after visiting friends and relatives at Clearspring.
Dr. John Thompson Dorrance, president and founder of Campbell Soup, died at his Pomona Farm home in Cinnaminson New Jersey at age 67. Born in Bristol Pennsylvania, MIT graduate, he built a global business starting from seven seventy six weekly wages and conceived condensed soup while studying in Germany.
Orthodox and reform synagogues start Rosh Hashanah at sundown with a shofar blast. New Year’s Day services Tuesday initiate year 5691 and a ten day period ending October 1 for the Day of Atonement. Observances last 48 hours for orthodox Jews and 24 hours for reform Jews.
United States Senator Phillips Lee Goldsborough, ill since late August, was reported improving yesterday. He was able to rise and move about the house, though previously suffered a relapse during the President's Bali visit and spent much time in bed. Officials said he expected to be out by next week.
The Board of Supervisors of Election issues notice that the board of registry will sit in multiple districts and precincts across Washington County Maryland on the respective designated days. Locations include Sharpsburg Williamsport Hancock Hagerstown Boonsboro Martinsburg and Keedysville with rooms named Antietam Hall Pipeman’s Hat O. F. Hall and various private residences and stores listed for voting district sessions.
