Baltimore Sept 21 Tear gas was used to subdue three convicts during a renewed disturbance at Maryland Penitentiary where prisoners revolt over alleged cruel treatment began Monday night. About 85 convicts remaining from the original 100 rallied after lights out and shouted before tear gas squads restored order.

Detroit September 21 Frederick C. Martindale former Michigan secretary of state and longtime political figure was found shot to death in his residence. Police believe he killed himself. Also noted were notices of a father’s sudden death and a movie union secretary kidnapped in Detroit.
