Homemaker and 4-H Exhibits Share Honors at Local Fair
Homemaker clubs and 4-H exhibitors divide top honors at the fair in the Main Exhibition Hall. Miss Mary Bester organized the displays with Ardath Martin and Mrs. Ray Rohrer guiding committees. The Homemakers show features pool and formal garden elements, a roadside market booth, home crafts like slip covers and cane bottoms, and a rest room arranged by Halfway Homemaker Club. Entries in the 4-H booth doubled previous years with clothing, baked goods, canning, and room improvement items judged by Miss Venia M. Keller.

Former Detroiter defeats Tigers in New York showdown
George Uhle, a former Detroit pitcher, beat his old club as the Yankees topped the Tigers 5 to 3 in New York. It was Uhle’s fourth straight win for the Yankees. Gerald Walker drove in all three Detroit runs with a double and triple. Detroit scored one in the first, two in the second, and none after, while New York led 1-0 at the end of the first and added four more across the middle frames.
