Plane wreck survivor salvages monoplane at mountain crash
Jack Oettinger a 24 year old amateur flier from Cleveland escaped a crash on South Mountain near Black Rock after fog and a heavy overcast caused his cabin monoplane to crash into a tree. The wreck was removed by truck to Smithsburg then shipped to Cleveland for repairs. Oettinger was unhurt though stiff and sore and began organizing salvage efforts with local volunteers.
