Fleming Takes Charge of Wage Hour Administration
Col Philip Fleming, 52, assumed control of the Wage Hour Administration as of Monday on the eve of key changes in the wage and hour standards. The new rules raise the minimum wage to 30 cents and cut the maximum 44 hour work week to 42 hours unless overtime is paid. Fleming pledged “Fair dealing” with industry and labor, saying drastic crackdowns should be avoided and dialogue used to achieve goals.

Three Hikers Rescued On Mt Washington After Night In Snow
Miss Anne Pearsall and Edward Coughlin of Lowell and Robert Bastow of Millerica were found on snow covered Mt Washington after 24 hours exposure to hurricane winds and sub freezing temps. They were rope linked with the girl in the middle, about 25, and near Crawford Notch highway. They had traveled nearly 20 miles from Pinkham Notch and were in good shape aside from clothing frozen from the hips down.
