Severe Storm Rips Washington County Hits St James Area
A fierce weekend storm swept Washington County with thunder, lightning, high winds, rain and marble sized hail. Hail blanketed the St James Downsville football field while scattered stones fell in Hagerstown and Chewsville. Temperatures cooled after a Saturday high of 79 and Sunday 68, with frosts erasing earlier gains.

Robbery Reports Probed By Police

Violinist Lewis Walls Found Dead in West Side Flat
New York police report the 58 year old acrobatic violinist Lewis Ian Walls was found strangled in a West Side apartment. He had been dead about a week and appears to have taken his own life by a towel tied around his neck.

Autos Damaged In Crash On Highway Near Delmar Inn
Two autos were badly damaged and one man slightly injured in a sideswipe on the western pike near Delmar Inn last night. Wage-Hour rule changes take effect next Tuesday
The Wage-Hour Administration estimates 2,382,500 workers will have shorter weeks and 630,000 will get pay raises as the second year of the act begins. The 25 cent minimum rises to 30 cents for interstate goods, the workweek falls from 44 to 42 hours, and time and a half applies after 42 hours. The 30 cent base remains for six years, then 46 cents, with the max 40 hours next year. Officials note many affected workers are in 11 Southern and five Northern states. Enforcement yielded $73,350 in fines, $200,000 back wages, and one jail term for record-keeping failure. Some workers were paid 3 to 4 cents hourly.
