Forestry Department Headquarters Move Planned at College Park
Baltimore October 20. Transfer of the State Forestry Department Headquarters and a reclassification of officials faced the department. President H C Byrd of the University of Maryland outlined plans for administrative changes including removal of Walter I Quick Jr from his $3,000 forester post and creation of a $4,200 professor role not under Civil Service. If funded, a new $4,200 post for a professor of public recreation and director of public parks could be added. The reorganization would place all department officials as professors, removing Civil Service status, while university faculty remain outside the merit system.
