Sputnik Seen At Hancock In Early Morning
Sputnik the Russian moonlet was seen with the naked eye at Hancock at 6 13 yesterday morning by engineer and amateur astronomer Robert Byers Jr. He also heard a sharp beep on his short wave radio and said Sputnik appeared brighter than fourth magnitude stars in the Big Dipper as it moved northwest to southeast about 20 degrees above the eastern horizon for nearly two minutes. Byers noted visibility only near dawn or dusk due to reflected sunlight and warned that a wide view is needed to spot it without binoculars or a telescope.

G Edward Gillespie 81 retired Sudlersville businessman and church layman died Sunday at his home.
