City and county schools will close next Wednesday evening for the remainder of Fair Week. About 394 teachers receive initial salary backings totaling up to $54,000 paid today and tomorrow to support the Fair season.
The new highway through Browns ville in Washington county nears completion and is slated to open around October 18. Poring of concrete is nearly finished and the lower end of the road is already open.
Hagerstown Nest No. 90 Order of Owls at 31 West Antietam Street was incorporated yesterday by the State Tax Commission with no capital stock. Incorporators listed include Fred Risling Robert Hale Richard Wroe D Paul Russell George J Lee Harry Davis John A Brandt William Griffith and Otho Poffenberger.
At the Pennsylvania Conference closing session Bishop William M Bell announced transfers affecting two county ministers and ten outlines within the United Brethren Church. Rev E Guy Stambaugh from Chewsville to Salem Baltimore will replace Rev H E Krone while Elmer Andrews moves from Mt Alto to Rohrersville succeeding Rev J D S Young. Additional changes place Rev A G Crone of Boiling Springs to Bendersville succeeding Rev D K Reisinger and Rev EB B Castle from Dallastown to Boiling Springs succeeding Rev A Crone. Rev Paul W B Cooper newly ordained goes to Cheynsville succeeding Rev BE Guy Stambach and Rev Paul EB V Shannon listed as former.
Flint, October 5. About 1300 fraudulent Republican ballots were cast in the September primary and fictitious names entered on poll books. Circuit Judge James S. Parker reported on the grand jury inquiry into election irregularities, resulting in indictments of 14 men including Mayor William H. McKeighan. The mayor and three others are bonded to appear October 10 for examination.

Chicago on October 5 reports ten leading high schools will offer aviation instruction. Superintendent William J. Bogan said the curriculum will cover fundamentals of airplane construction and operation, including theory of flight, aerodynamics, and model making, as students show eagerness to learn about aeronautics.
Yale students Sydney R Prince Jr of Washington and Alex Knapp of Baltimore face assault with intent to rob and impersonating an officer charges in Franklin County Court. They were in Blue Ridge Summit before golf championship travel, detained after allegedly stopping a truck driven by Harry Rowe of Waynesboro and claiming to be officers, Rowe recovering his wallet after a struggle. Bail set at 1000 dollars each. possible guilty plea to a lesser assault charge.
James Banks charged in warrants with sale of liquor had his case nolle pressed by State’s Attorney for lack of evidence. It emerged Banks neither owns nor operates the alleged saloon at 134 North Jonathan Street. Attys Wolf Haas and Carr represented him. Two Reading hikers picked up early roamed the streets and were released after Justice Duttey paid $1 for breakfast. they claim money wired to Martinsburg was stolen.

Friedrichshafen October 5 Graf Zeppelin flight to the United States now set for after October 9 depending on wind and weather. Dr Hugo Eckener said the northern route via Holland Middle England Northern Ireland then Newfoundland Boston and New York is preferred but bad weather may force a southern course. Travel time east with wind back to Europe about 45 to 50 hours. westward no more than two days. He urged calm if silence persists and noted wireless contact will be limited after Gulf Stream is reached.

In Baltimore on October 6 six Federal prohibition bureau employees were suspended for gross dereliction of duty following the disappearance of a tank car holding 5,000 gallons of denatured alcohol from the United States Industrial Alcohol Company plant at Curtis Bay. The car, valued around $80,000 on the illicit market, was among several slated for shipment after denaturing. Administrator John F. J. Herbert ordered the suspensions, with local officials suggesting possible collusion.
